Baseball @ Vandy Doubleheader

Recommended Posts

Playing two today at 2:00 and 6:30. Mercifully, the last series of the season. Unmercifully, it's against Vanderbilt. However small the chance, this series does have SEC tournament implications for Auburn. If the season ended now (can it? Please?), the Tigers would be in at 8-19 in conference ahead of Arkansas and Tennessee at 7-20. Mizzou is also tied with AU at 8-19, but I'm guessing the season series takes precedent in the standings (someone feel free to confirm or correct me).

So, to make Hoover, Auburn needs to win the same amount of games this weekend as Arky (@ MSU) and UT (@Georgia), or the same amount as either of the two and one more than Mizzou wins this weekend (@UK). So, let's root for Moo State and UGA sweeps....and Auburn wins too, of course, but baby steps...

1. correct. 2. Yes on Arky. No on UTk. AU essentially has a 2 game lead on UTk winning the H2H tie breaker so UTk has to win 2 more than AU.

-AU loses H2H Ties w/ ARky & Mizzou therefore a H2H tie w/ either or 3 way means AU is out.

-A 3 way tie w/ Mizzou & UTk means Mizz 11 seed, AU 12, UTk out because of H2H records. Mizz 5-1 vs AU & UTk, AU is 3-3. UTk is 1-5. (Scenario if Arky is swept by Miss St.)

-3 way tie w/ AU, UTk, & Arky would depend on record versus highest seed common opponent since UTk & Arky did not play. There are 3 possibilities here. LSU, Ole Miss, & UK. UK is out as they can't catch LSU & the Rebs in standings. If LSU is the higher seed then AU gets the 12 seed for being the only team to get a game off LSU. If Ole Miss is the higher seed the UTk is the 12 seed as they are the only team of the 3 to get a game off the Rebs. Ole Miss & LSU are tied right now w/ the Rebs having the H2H tie breaker. Both have tough sewries w/ Rebs @ TAMU & LSU hosting UF.

-4 team tie breaker w/ AU, Mizz, Arky, & UTk would go to record against LSU because UTk did not play Arky this year so you can't use H2H breaker record w/ tied teams. You then try to find a team in the top 8 all 4 played. There are 2 in that group. LSU & UK. LSU will be the higher seed so they are the tie breaker. LSU swept all of them except AU. That would make AU the 11 seed. Arky, UTk, & Mizz would then go to a 3 team tie breaker. Since UTk did not play Arky you look at the first team in the 1-8 seeds that played all 3. As Standings are now that's UF. UTk is the only team UF did not sweep so UTk would be the 12 seed w, Aky & Mizzou out.

In the end as AU fans you are pulling for UK, UGA, TAMU, Miss St., & LSU. The only series that has 0 impact on AU is the Bama-SC series.

Many thanks! Now my head hurts so if AU could just sweep, I feel it'd be easier to sort this all out.

Nulph with a single. Tigers with runners on first and second with nobody out. With AU's pitching woes this season, I wouldn't mind grabbing a 5-6 run lead here in this inning...

After 2 failed bunt attempts, Foster grounds into a FC at third. First and second, one out.

Groundout FC. Foster out at second. Runners on corners, 2 out, with Deese at the plate. AU really missing Buentello and Ebert, who are suspended for violation of team rules...

Good contact hit out to the OF, but the outfielder runs it down. Threat eradicated. Bummer. 2-1 AU to B4.

Two on and no outs..and leave the bases loaded...not well played...

RBI single gives Vandy the lead 3-2. That just might do it for this one, pardon the pessimism.

Groundout. Inning over. But the damage is done. Vanderbilt takes the lead 3-2. To the 5th.

If the hitting doesnt take advantage of their opportunities, then we have no chance. Our pitching will simply not hold them. So far the hitting is too inconsistent.

DP ended a nice little threat..

The early season hitting prowess has really dried up.

AU had runners on the corners with one out, but a DP ends that. Down 3-2 to the bottom of the 5th.
