ellitor 33,091
Quote Texas WR Jalen Curry recaps ‘amazing’ official visit, desire to go out of state Benjamin Wolk AUBURN, Ala. — Jalen “Boobie” Curry’s second visit to Auburn? By his estimation, 10 times better than the first. That wasn’t a knock on that first trip a couple years ago. After all, that was the visit that launched Curry’s well-established recruitment. The things Curry remembers from that trip: picking up his first college offer and soundly beating wide receivers coach Kodi Burns in NBA 2K. As memorable as those moments were, his Monday-to-Wednesday official visits with his father made an ever greater mark. “Overall the visit was truly amazing, 10 times better than when we first came, and the first time we came I thought it was amazing. The atmosphere, the tradition, it’s just amazing. It feels like home,” Curry said after his visit. “Me and [Burns] have a good relationship. Ever since I first came he has been straight up with me 100 percent. I will always remember how he offered me as a freshman. He believed in me first.” His second trip included additional time with Burns and other coaches on the Auburn staff. That wasn’t exclusive to the football team, however. An avid basketball fan, Curry met Auburn basketball coach Bruce Pearl who he described as “outstanding.” Curry also had the opportunity to visit the business school, which he described as a “eye-opening” experience. He spent a lot of time with fellow Texas native and Auburn running back Kam Martin. When it comes to Auburn, though, Curry’s interest in the Tigers is simple. It’s a title-contending program with a bright future. “Really, they’ve been successful for many years. They’re always competing for national championships,” Curry said. “Knowing they’re going to put the ball in the wide receivers hands to make plays is a big deal. Then they have Bo Nix, one of the best quarterbacks in the country, coming in. You always want a great quarterback throwing you the ball, so I know I’ll have a good quarterback throwing me the ball.” Curry’s father, Will, doubled down on the national championship point. A Houston native, many have believed one of the in-state schools would win out for the nation’s No. 125 overall prospect who has been offered by 40 programs. Curry himself admitted to looking outside the state at programs such as Auburn, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Florida State and LSU more than the in-state schools. He said His father said that fits right in line with Curry’s national championship comment. “Auburn has a real chance of him committing. This wasn’t a token visit,” Will Curry said. “There’s no team in Texas winning a national championship anytime soon.” Curry’s out-of-state interest gives Auburn a legitimate shot to land Curry. He’s only taken two official visits so far to Auburn and Tennessee. Curry hasn’t laid out a timetable for his other official visits or decision-making process, but Auburn will be a factor until Curry makes his commitment. “They are definitely one of the schools on top of my list. They are one of my top schools. They have been with me 100 percent throughout the whole process,” Curry said. “It’s a dream come true playing Division-I football for any athlete growing up. For them to offer me first, for me to know I’m able to play Division-I football, was a dream come true. They were the first school to help my dreams come true.”
