Everything I'm reading about him, and what I see in his first public engagement at his current gig, is a very good cultural fit. And I mean Gus's culture, not the GOB system stuff.

To your point and @DAG's, it's interesting that Napier might be a 7 across the board when Cristobal was mostly 9s with a few sub-5s. 

I've never had the excitement about Cristobal as others have.  If you look at what Napier has done at ULL, with 20 years of losing records, to all of a sudden have Napier in his years there go 27-11... that's says just a little bit about the culture he has created there, as well as his ability as a head coach.

Only if that’s the decision of the new coach. If they are in anyway viewed as associated with the past shenanigans, they don’t need to be around. Whoever is named the new coach needs to be able to name his staff with no restrictions. If he’s successful or not, it needs to be by his decisions.

If it is Napier, looking back through his stops a name that might be available is Tosh Lupai who worked with him at Alabama. He is currently serving as the DL coach with the Falcons. With a new coach likely there he may be available depending if he wants to re-enter the college ranks after a couple years in the NFL. I know he is considered a great recruiter as well.

Im Already hearing bring back this guy and this guy. If he is the coach please give this guy the opportunity to do a proper evaluation and bring in his own guys or if they meet the criteria bring back Auburn guys..we need a bigger network

Supposedly he was in consideration if we got Mario. Would be a huge get.

Based on his resurrection of ULL program, his connections with elite coaches ala Saban and Dabo. Seems like he has a process/culture for success. Pretty good recruiter at UAT...

We know what we get with Gus. There is at least potential with Napier to be better.

It's like hiring a former employee that puts out 75% production vs a new hire. At least with the new hire, there is a chance that you get 100% or better production. But with the old guy, you know to expect 75%. 

Weird way to put it probably.. but that's how I view a question like that.

One of the biggest issues I had with Gus was the inability to develop talent. I do think Steele did well on the defensive side of the ball in that aspect.. but on offense.. we didn't see much of that. Napier, from what I can tell, seems to get MORE out of his players. Not so much with Gus.

Lots of a reasons. 1) He's personable. 2) His teams at UL always played with focus and disciple, competing with the big boys regularly. 3) Everything I've read shows him as a CEO who knows how to build a program, not just be a great coach on the field. 4) There's a lot of good, common sense, and effective approach he takes to recruiting and development.
