  1. It's always questionable to predict outcomes of games not played. I personally believe that the 03 team was not the 04 team for USC or AU. And I think AU would win so we might disagree. But we would have curb stomped Oklahoma as bad or worse than they did.
  2. Two thoughts on this. I totally agree with those that wish him well and I hope he balls out in the pros. I refuse to blame any kid for leaving the crap show our program was at that time. However, the scouts that the pros pay ' a lot of money to see through these situations ' are correct in their QB evaluations around 50% of the time. And the newest fad in the NFL is to sign a QB to the rookie minimum and play them for 2-3 years. If the team doesn't have a warm and fuzzy feeling about the QB after that, they trade them or cut them before they can make real money the 4th year. Unlike colleges who pay top dollar for QBs that may or may not be worth it. There are exceptions for every rule, but for every Mahomes I'll show you a Jamarcus Russell. It does very few college QBs a favor as they aren't being trained properly, IMO. Aaron Rogers is the latest example of a QB brought up the old way. As in not starting until he was ready.
  3. If A&M really wants him, you're not wrong. And there's really nothing AU or any coach could do about it, if money is all that matters.
  4. I try not to be negative about our program and college ball in general. But that's fair, Mikey. When I allow myself to think about it, I remember the crowds at NASCAR races a couple of decades (or less?) ago.
  5. I understand that. And he may not work out. The NFL spends millions of dollars to evaluate QBs in the draft. Their success rate hovers around 50%. So a first rate QB is a priority every cycle. HF actually had one ready to commit in the last few days. Then A&M upped the ante on the QB and gave a scholarship to his brother. We've had one quality QB since Stidham, and he was a lifelong AU fan and his Dad played here. Our current coaching staff seems to recognize the problems and try and recruit to solve them. FWIW, if a coach thinks there are only two QBs worth having and they commit elsewhere, it's really easy to tell your current QB that you won't recruit anyone this cycle to compete with him. 😁
  6. Two grown men shaking hands after the game. And yes, Fiddy, I do too..
  7. And in the NBA, he will not be the number one scoring priority player for the opposing defense. I couldn't care less where he's drafted. He can score. He'll play in the NBA and make a ton of money. No matter what he decides this year.
  8. True. The difference is that if uat hadn't packed the inside against UConn, they would have been beaten just as bad on the inside. Also UConn plays D , and dang good D. Which helps explain the disparity in 3s. Conversely, if uat goes cold from outside in a game, they are losing. UConn is the closest thing to a great team in college ball this year. Because they were the most complete team.
  9. Ha! Don't sweat it. Get better.
  10. You are forgiven. But I meant what I told you in the message, brother.
  11. Tagovailoa was number 8 in 17 or so. Matt Corral the next year I believe. Of course there's some like Jake Garcia later on. Overall a quick search says that the yearly top 10 group for HS QBs is as good of a predictor as it gets in football.
  12. You know, we missed on Sears. I hate it. But every other team in the entire nation missed on him , also. This horse is really dead at this point. It ain't like Oats got him when every other blue blood in America wanted him.
  13. Yes. And it was no secret to anyone with 3 brain cells. My niece was in school at the time and said he rode a freaking scooter to class when he couldn't get a ride. The NCAA camped out forever to find something to get us with. One of my best buds said that no school could handle that. He's a bammer. He actually told a gump bammer that for AU to pay Cam big money, and get away with it, they (AU) would have to be better at "that" than uat. I laughed.
  14. This fan doesn't hate anyone or any team. Not even uat. Oh wait. I forgot about Virginia basketball....... Nevermind......
  15. We just had the A Day game. I'm not gonna get a head start worrying about the season after the season that doesn't kick off for 5 months or so. Heck, at my age , I don't buy green bananas.
  16. I believe that would mean that the people we recruited and got through the portal have a higher upside than the veterans they will be replacing. Assuming most of them stay. I understand why some of us are having trouble visualizing what happens at uat and uga every year. It's been a long minute since AU was in this situation.
  17. Like the sign at my favorite Pub.... FREE BEER TOMORROW!
  18. I'm not sure I agree with 💯 of that, but the sports part is spot on. I do want to get back to the days where we are feared and nobody looks forward to playing us. In both sports.
  19. You named them all. Except for the Mengelt days before you were born. Now figure out how many seasons that was, and how many good seasons BP has had to this point, in AU basketball history. Hint.... Shug Jordan was a good basketball coach for a short period of time. And AU did not continue to win games when Ellis, Smith, etc, left. But it's different now and I'm sure we can get several coaches better than we've ever had. I know. I'm the reason we don't win the NCAA basketball title 4 years in a row.
  20. The networks paid the money, and that's ALL the NCAA cares about. TBS and Tru TV will get stellar ratings compared to what they get any other time.
  21. No. It will start close to 10 PM on the east coast. It's not on the weekend, at a decent hour on a decent TV station. It's on Tru TV and TBS. Heck I'm in the central time zone and I probably won't make it past half time or mid second half.
  22. Let's not forget that we didn't break the bank initially to hire BP. He's gotten a couple of raises for us to keep him. Now some think that was smart, others obviously don't, but I believe BP has a buy out, also. So I for one hope AU doesn't start paying basketball coaches not to coach. We do enough of that in football.
  23. Most of the guys on the AU podcast shows thought that Thorne was by far the most consistent and accurate of them all. All 4 had a couple of really good throws but none were as consistent as Thorne, according to these people. I didn't see any of it, and haven't bothered since 2004, which was a waste of time. As they all are except for recruiting and getting to be in Auburn.
  24. They don't make the tournament without him. One elite scorer makes everyone else on the team better. At least on the offensive end of the court.
