  1. Before all the new stuff happened, right? And when it did, he got beat and interviewed his players. Got their answers, and .... Retired. And I don't blame him.
  2. I understand that everyone wants to be better than 8-4. So do I. I don't understand people hating a coach that has been here a little over a year, and never failing to lump him in with the last 5- however many years of AU football being irrelevant. In his only season here, I've seen some good things and things I didn't like. The bad is obvious. Bowl game, NM State game, the offense. On the plus side, we have more OTs on the team and committed to the team than we've had at any time in recent history, which shows he knows where the weaknesses are. Also tackles can slide inside easily and play guard. If we can keep them healthy, we should see an upgrade at receiver. Probably the second most neglected position on the O. Many sports pundits nationally thought, and still think, that it's a total rebuild for AU to get over the hump, and that it can't happen in a year in football today. I'm willing to let it play out some.
  3. Saban hasn't quit complaining about it . He just quit because of it.
  4. My son graduated college in 2010 Played football from the time he was six. He was a great kid but too little to play organized ball. He absolutely refused not to play. He would be in the yards of neighbors playing tackle football with no pads and everyone out there bigger than he was. We could not stop him, so we let him play organized ball if he wouldn't play without pads in the neighborhood. To be honest I'm not sure he ever stopped the neighborhood ball either. He played 4 years in college (DIII) and formed bonds with his LB group and a couple of others that are unbreakable. They all meet once a year for a deer hunt in a central location, and come from 4 different states to get there. They meet in smaller groups for a couple of NASCAR races, concerts, or fishing trips whenever possible. All are married and have kids and stayed out of trouble. There are a lot of pros to go with the cons in the discussion about playing the sport. Sorry for the long post.
  5. Don't I know that feeling! I knew what you meant but I admit I was gonna say something like ...we don't always agree but you aren't ever boring....
  6. If HF and BP are reading the AU forums and give two craps about what I think or anyone else on here thinks, I'll agree. We should fire them both. Fans should "expect and demand major improvements...." to who should we demand these things? And if we know the answer, why aren't we complaining and demanding to them, and not a bunch of AU fans on a forum? Both coaches have accounts on X. If you're of a mind to tell them what you think.
  7. It's up to the individual, I guess. I sure hate it for the family but I loved to watch him play. Well, listen and read about him playing would be more like it. Plus the Auburn review on Sunday afternoon.
  8. You would have to ask all the good college professors I've known where they worked or what they did for a living . The vast majority would announce their occupation to anyone around within 30 seconds of a conversation .
  9. I will give you credit. Unlike others that criticize every little thing a coach does, sometimes for years, and insinuate almost daily how dumb they are as a coach but by no means want to fire them, you step up. You at least admit you want to fire every coach who doesn't do what you want them to.
  10. So if all our RBs transfered, would they go to DIII? DII? Power 5 schools? I actually think a few, maybe one or two, SEC teams , might take a couple or three of our RBs. My uat buddy would love to have JH , Cobb, or Alston. But he's probably not as knowledgeable as you guys.
  11. What a great picture! Congratulations and War Eagle!
  12. The best news about the O line is the amount of them we have and are recruiting every year. Especially at tackle. It's been beaten to death , but HF and staff have really prioritized the lines on both sides. D line will be the priority in the portal, but we've got some good young ones for depth.
  13. If AU offers, half the experts on this forum will be pissed it wasn't whoever that wanted it to be. My brother sent me something like, Bruce Pearl cures Cancer! Many AU fans pissed because he's putting so many medical people out of work and can't beat Yale. It's why we're fans ....
  14. Well, since we're doing the IF game, if UNCs leading scorer and best 3 pt shooter goes just a little better than 4 for 20 in the uat game, a lot of people that base AUs season on what uat does would be much happier. In a 3 game series, bama is toast. In a 40 minute game against an opponent you haven't played before, anything can happen. UConn has been the best team in the nation, IMO. Rarely does the best team win this tournament.
  15. Can also takes a lot of expectations away from the receivers that were here last year. When he walks on the field, Brown, Fair, Moore, and Burton , whatever combination, will be better, and feel less pressure. Not to mention the best defender of the opponent is not on them. If Lewis and Cain show out, we just need someone to throw it somewhere close. Then we can pound people with the run, til they bring everyone up to stop it. Rinse, repeat. Let's hope this happens.
  16. In any 'best of' series other than single elimination UConn wins going away. Best of 3, 5, 7 whatever. But this tournament is different. You could say the same thing about a lot of match ups in every tournament. Only takes one team a bit off and the other playing over their heads.
  17. Pat Dye's philosophy, also. When asked what he thought about Coach Spurrier running up the score on AU, he said something like , well, if we didn't like it we should've stopped them.
  18. Exactly. The headline for that story from a reputable news organization would be similar to..DJ Durkin hired by Auburn. But by the headline used , one sees everything wrong with the modern media in one sentence. They omit the fact that he has worked since Maryland and bring up the worst thing that happened during his career. The headline should be straight news and then the reporter can do the who, what, when , where in the article. Else it's an opinion piece and not news. This happens everyday, all day.
  19. You both have great points Which means we have no idea which one of you are right. And I doubt the coaches do either, at this point, at any school. Coaches were definitely overpaid on the past. I'm not sure now.
  20. I lost a great friend to this absolutely devastating and cruel disease. Even his ex wife got on board with fund raisers at the end. He wasn't perfect, but neither is anyone else. God bless the family, cause we have no idea what they went through.
  21. I HOPE...... that the older I get , the more I know that this is the truth. Or at least it WAS, before they all became pros. They're still 18-22 year olds, however.
  22. Maybe he read some stuff on an AU blog that blasted him for saying what he thought last year?
  23. I'm not trying to defend Kirby in any way, but I see people driving 40-50 miles over the speed limit on I-20 through Atlanta every time I go through there. All Georgia tags. It's so bad that you can do 75 in a 55 and the cops won't even look your way. And a lot of the mega speeders are also invincible, as they don't appear to care if they wreck or cause you and a couple of others to wreck with them. Full disclosure. I'm old but still have a lead foot. If I say you're going too fast, you're going too fast.
  24. What an original post! Geez , I wish someone else in the last 2 or 4 years would've posted that!! My apologies to Kansas, Cole, and NW. It was like Belushi on the stairs with the acoustic guitar in Animal House. I just couldn't help it....
  25. I understand that, and we all wish we had better talent at every position. And even on the bench But when we lose a game it's the same stuff for a couple of years now. And when the season starts, we have what we have. To repeat the same questions gets old, but I reckon the same arguments I make get old, too. So I think I'll just quit making them and get on with football. War Eagle.
