What mark Emmert says about schools cheating

'Cheating will not be tolerated'

Let's make no mistake: Today's violations in collegiate athletics are utterly indefensible. They overshadow all that is good in college sports. They cast doubt over the motivations of all involved and give credibility to the cynical view. Worse, they encourage others to cheat. That is why they cannot be tolerated.

These concerns — among others — prompted me to gather a group of Division I college presidents this month to address these problems and resolve them quickly. The result was a strong consensus and a clearly stated agenda for action, an agenda the Division I Board of Directors and I will enact in the coming weeks and months.

First, we agreed student-athletes must be just that, students who are athletes. Winning on the court or field is not enough. College athletes must also perform well in the classroom. The board took an important first step by creating serious academic standards that teams must meet to play in NCAA championships. Higher eligibility standards for college freshmen and junior college transfers are also coming shortly.

Second, we all agreed that the NCAA's rules need to be simplified with clear emphasis on integrity — weed out unenforceable and irrelevant rules and focus on serious threats.

Next, we are addressing the needs of student-athletes, looking to increase grants to cover the full cost of attendance and providing opportunities for multiyear scholarships and greater support for summer school.

Finally, I am committed — with the full support of our presidents — to hold all those involved in college athletics responsible for following the rules. It is not too onerous a burden to expect participants in college sports to not cheat. For those who do, we must be clear about the consequences.

We are changing our enforcement practices and our penalties to reflect these common-sense values. There must be shared responsibility — among presidents, athletes, administrators, coaches, conferences, agents and boosters alike — that cheating will not be tolerated and the cost of doing so outweighs any benefit. Words, of course, do not mean much; only action counts. We cannot legislate integrity. But we can and will define it, expect it and hold ourselves accountable.

Yada yada yada Mark.  If you stand behind this-the why are you not investigating bammer????  Because you and saban are buds???  Emmert you speak out of both sides of your mouth!

Mark Emmert is a clown, plain and simple.

He chose to give credence to a nut-job (Danny Sheridan), that says all I need to know about Mark Emmert.

This goof has his investigators wasting their time and resources investigating Auburn unofficially without any substantiated evidence all the while athletes are dressing in custom fitted suits and driving 2011 Yukons and new customized Chargers. Yeah, that makes perfect sense.....

IN BIZARRO WORLD!  :banghead:

I just wrote the sob a scathing letter, questioning the reason they are not looking into this.  I asked him if it was because him and saban where pals.  If he did not launch an investigation into this, his words mean nothing, and he himself is accountable.

Weird how the NCAA has been the "unofficial" resident proctologist in the AU program for nearly a freaking year now.   :banghead:

Yet, we've received no "official" letter from the NCAA stating a dang thing.  Our own school president said he knows absolutely nothing about an NCAA investigation and only knows what he reads in the newspaper, WTH?..... :dunno:

Emmert chose to take NCAA time and resources to question Danny Sheridan about some BS rumor he started.

Yet, he won't do a dang thing about evidence of blatant infractions at LSU or Bama?

Honestly, ya'll have absolutely zero clue about what exactly the NCAA is doing. Unless you work in the NCAA Compliance Office, you don't know. He could have investigators in Tuscaloosa but it's not like you're gonna know about it.

They aren't gonna shout out where they are investigating to the whole world because it'll stir the pot. The NCAA doesn't want to find cheaters and when they do it puts a negative light back on the NCAA for not governing strictly enough.

The presidents of the NCAA in the past have not sought out the interview limelight, like this president has. Certainly some public communication is not unwarranted. HOWEVER, his comments about not commenting on investigations and then people from his office including him speaking about Auburn specifically has a REAL effect of making his comments suspect at BEST.

Was President Gogue invited to Emmert's "gathering" of the presidents?

Anybody have a list of which Div I presidents were in attendance when the agenda for action was implimented?

Just curious which presidents Mark felt needed to be involved in addressing the problems of cheating... :dunno:

The NCAA is the least of the SEC members problems. As long as the SEC offices remain in bammerham

bammer will be protected. The other member schools need to address this problem before expansion or

          new NCAA rules!

I've got a source within the NCAA for the last 20 years or so and I can definitively say that there is a 50% chance this is true.

My sentiments Westie...we need to chill the heck out. Always remember the world is not fair, and while I hate what happened to Auburn, I understand that this is the nature of the beast. Alabama will get theirs, remember they did not long ago! They are still on probation, and have been earmarked BY THE NCAA as serial repeat violators. I think they are on the radar of the investigative arm of the NCAA. Let's take a breath and quit email everyone and their mama telling them to do something about. I'm fairly certain they are doing or gonna do something about it without all of us telling them to. War Eagle!

What member schools are you talking about?

Tennessee, LSU, Uat, and So Carolina are all on probation right now.  MSU has to be under investigation for Cecil Newton/Rogers/Bonds/Bell fiasco.  We are apparently under investigation for Lord knows what......  The only schools not in the NCAA crosshairs is Florida, OM, Vandy, UGA and maybe UK?

We need to stop firing off angry letters to the NCAA.  All this does is give them more incentive to prolong this mess.  Trust me, if you've heard rumors about bama, they've heard rumors about bama.  Angry letters don't motivate them to investigate, evidence does.  So if you have video evidence of Richardson taking cash payments from Al-Betar, by all means, send it to the NCAA.  Otherwise, just let them do their jobs, and we will do ours, cheering on the Tigers every week.

Sure, I'm gonna cheer on the Tigers but I get tired of hearing about all the smoke that's supposed to be coming from Auburn, but yet since Saban's been at Bammer, they seem untouchable.  Annoying.  (I will have to say that it doesn't really look good for half the SEC schools to be under investigation or currently reporting violations either though.)
