Love it!

1.0 final will be released soon, I think.

Also check out the extensions that are available. There are a ton of them. I like the "Single Window" extension...instead of links opening in a new browser window, they open in a new tab. If you have a Gmail account, you can get an extension that tells you if you have mail right from the status bar of Firefox.

Best theme is "Qute"...easiest on the eyes. It was also the default theme for 0.8.

I've been using Firefox for about three months now and am quite satisified with it. Many of the issues I had with IE do not exist with Firefox.

Are you using META tags to force refresh on page load or at regular intervals? If so, that may be why you had to refresh it with Firefox (though I have not tested META support in Firefox yet). That is one of the lovely problems I used to run into while designing websites during the early browser wars (IE vs. Netscape). IE and Netscape absolutely could not display the same page identically unless you were using the most basic HTML. Web standards have come a long way since then, but you still find inconsistencies between IE, Netscape, Firefox, and Mozilla. I used to keep known inconsistencies charted so I could design around them until I grew accustomed to doing it without thinking, so I will try to find my listing for you.

As for Firefox itself, two things caused me to abandon IE in favor of it. The first was security. It simply is not wise to browse around the internet these days with a target on your back. I wish I could tell you how many businesses pay me $75/hour to remove simple adware-malware infections that were caused by none other than IE and browsing the internet via broadband with reckless abandon.

The second thing that caused me to abandon IE was that Mozilla and Firefox are both actually faster than IE, and the difference is noticeable. This is not really so much a result of Mozilla superiority as it is Microsoft complacency. After effectively winning the aforementioned browser wars, they effectively stopped development of IE. IE 6 is a patch job of IE 4's old coding, whereas Firefox was built from scratch. Mozilla never really stepped on IE's toes until the Firefox project.

I could say a third thing caused my love of Firefox, and that would be the features, but I do not use them as much as I just like seeing them there. I like tabbed browsing, but CTRL-N is a habit that dies hard, so I do not use it as much as I would like. I would also prefer a close button on the tab itself, instead of it being on the far right (CTRL-W is a habit I have not developed yet). Another feature I would like if I needed it is the popup blocker, but I use ZoneAlarm Pro instead.

I have not bothered with the themes or extensions, but was meaning to get around to it eventually.

I love the double-click to close and ad-block.

The TinyURL creator comes in handy too when emailing al.com news articles.

thanks fellas. i am a complete neophyte when it comes to all this, but i did understand that one of the benfits of firefox was it helped avoid some of the spying issues that IE didn't...plus it's faster.

i'm going to check out themes today!
