Best (and worst) beers you've ever had

I'm not real big on session IPAs. Last one I can remember enjoying off hand would be Alpine's Hoppy Birthday. It was legit. It was strong for a session brew though. Something like 5.25. Probably just underexposure.

Speaking of Alpine, wish I could track down their Duet IPA again. Absolutely loved that one.

Yeah man, Alpine is legit.

5.25... I think that's about 3/4 of a point higher than a textbook definition of a session beer. Not that I really care.

I'm like you. I've had 3 or 4 session IPAs that I've liked. Mostly they've disappointed. It really doesn't matter how many IBUs you're rocking if the beer is water-thin. If I want low ABV, I'll just order a gose or, if I'm lucky, a Wells Bombardier (4.7). Also, allow me to take yet another opportunity to bemoan the absence of New Glarus beers outside of Wisconsin. Pretty sure I'd take Spotted Cow (4.9) in a heartbeat over any session IPA I've had.

Here it is. Knew I had some beer porn of it saved in my bucket somewhere. Can't see it here, but they market it as a session beer. Crappy pic.

I've got a glass shaped similarly to that one you have the Duet in that is sneakily one of my favorite IPA glasses.

That beer is mighty clear. Like wearing straw-tinted sunglasses.

English pub glass. Love it. One of the first I bought when I learned about proper glassware and frequently used for beer in amounts larger than 12 oz. Perfect for that 1 liter, 6 oz bottle.

I also like the English Pub style pint glass. Royal pint(?) I think it's called. I've got one from Bell's and another from Memphis Made.

Imperial pint, I believe. Mine is a Williams-Sonoma. Might as well whip it out:

Need this tonight. Room temp. Sadie's soccer practice sucked. 34 degrees and windy. Like anytime I stood up it was blowing my chair over windy. Sucked down two cups of coffee trying to stay warm. Caffeine jitters. This should take the edge off and help me go to sleep.

The city council was unanimous on the brewery vote, BTW. Trussville will be getting a brewery to call our own.;D

Lot of folks from the FBC went to protest. In particular, the librarian from the Trussville public library, whose son was killed by a drunk driver. I applaud and appreciate her sharing her story and will thank her next time I see her. We already have many businesses that sell liquor in the city limits now, though.

Good heavens, between Parish here and a certain country artist in the music thread, I sound like a broken record....but seriously.

On Friday, I plan on changing that, with a little help from a friend.

Yeah, you have to respect the feelings of someone like that, but it is indeed an emotional stance and not a logical one.

Hopefully she is also rallying to support improved public transit and also showed up in favor of Uber when they were lobbying to open up shop in the area.

The "DH" is for "dry hopped."

Quadruple dry hopped. Dry hopping means adding hops to the wort after it's been cooled. It tends to add a lot more hop aroma and flavor without adding bitterness.

The quadruple part could mean a few things- to include just adding a metric crap ton of hops or adding hops four separate times after the boil- and, honestly, could be a bit dubious. But there hasn't yet been anything dubious about Parish and hop-driven beers, so it's probably something very legit.

Per Jeopardy (Final, Category = "International Beverage Brands"), as broadcast by the local channel available to my So.Ala. abode:

"The name of this popular beer brand, founded in 1897, is a reference to the 20th century."
