I saw B.Jacobs last game..A quick Thought

My Wife's relatives all live in South Illinois, so each Thanksgiving we head that way. This year, the might 10-1 SIU Football team (#1 in the NCAA 1AA) was playing their first playoff game. My wife's uncle had tickets and invited me out to it. First, it was cold, rainy and well, not a good day at all to go watch a team I really had no interest in, but since Brandon Jacob's was playing, my wife's uncle really wanted me to go with his friends, I went a long with it. So, we get to the game, and to no surprise, B. Jacob's is the biggest player on the field. A man among boys. I then quickly found out that people of that region somewhat kept of with football but they really are more interested in their basketball team (a very good one at that). So, most of the people around me called him "the big guy," because they really didn't know his name. So, I as talked about him, about what he did (and didn't do) at Auburn, I quickly found myself the resident B.Jacobs specialists. Game begins, SIU comes out and runs toss and quick passes to a small back. Finally at the opposing team's 30, B. Jacob's comes in. I stand up (the only one standing I might add) and yell, run it up the middle with #27 (B. Jacob's). Luck be it, that's what they do, and he breaks 5 tackles and runs it into the end zone. So, then out, it was calls to give to the "big guy," who would carry half the other team on his back, and drag them down the field for 9-11 yard runs. In the meantime, the other team was passing it all over the field, scoring at will during the2nd half. SIU defense could not stop them. The whole time, B. Jacobs conitue to drstory their line and run it at will...being a monster force on the field....thus making me think...what could have been..having that 3rd back to power the ball. To make a long story short. SIU had to drive it down the field with 30 seconds left, and well, they ended up not winning, thus blowing a lead and being on the losing end of an "upset" victory. As the teams were shaking hands on the field,my uncle said, hey isn't that #27 leaving the field." Sure enough, B. Jacob's was the first one off the field, not interested is good sportsmanship as the rest of the team was taking a part of, even though it was a tough lost. This, once again made me understand that no matter what talent a guy might have, it's the heart that matters. Even if the guy could have jumped higher, ran faster and hit harder than caddy and ronnie, we still had the best two backs in our backfield in the country. The addition of B.Jacobs would not have helped anything...and probably would have hurt things. I'm glad he got his chance at SIU, but his attitude would not have fit with this years Auburn team.

Just a random thought by me....

I saw a scouting report on the top players you never see on TV on some ESPN/CNNSI/FOXSPORTS blurb last week and Brandon Jacobs was listed at about number 6. Interestingly, it also stated that he would probably have to move to tight end in the NFL. Think the AU coaches might have known what they were talking about?
