aufan57 922
Quote Auburn signee Carlito Gonzalez enrolls, will play at Memphis What happened to his pit stop at a junior college before coming to Auburn? Brandon Marcello - 14 minutes ago AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn signee Carlito Gonzalez did not qualify to enroll at Auburn, but he is enrolling at Memphis just three days after it was believed he was headed to a junior college for the fall semester. The three-star defensive back did not complete the necessary coursework to enroll at Auburn and was seeking a junior college for enrollment, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said Monday. On Thursday, a Memphis spokesperson confirmed to Auburn Undercover that Gonzalez has instead enrolled in classes and will play football at Memphis, an AAC school. Malzahn said at SEC Media Days in mid-July Gonzalez had a class to finis , but expected the final member of the 2017 signing class to report before team reports for fall camp on July 30. Auburn Undercover has reached out to Gonzalez multiple times this summer, but hasn't been able to get in contact with him. "He’s in the process of looking for a junior college. He’ll go to a junior college and try to get here," Malzahn said Monday. Those plans apparently quickly changed after Malzahn's comments at the start of preseason camp. Gonzalez is the only Auburn signee in the class of 2017 to not make it to campus.

aujeff11 6,243
I can't stand losing signees to juco( or to random 4 year schools.). We used to be spoiled to this not happening under Gus. Jusf out of curiosity, where would this put last year's recruiting class?

And there are now recruiting punishments for signing non-qualifiers. We lose those two scholarships for this upcoming recruiting class. I am interested to see if Gonzalez going to Memphis allows us to get that scholarship back.

This has no effect on the 2018 class, we will still have 25 new 2018 scholarships to offer.
