WFE12 9,191
Freshman WR Shedrick Jackson enrolled early with Auburn football ‘ahead of the game’ AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn football coaches and players keep repeating one thing about freshman wide receiver Shedrick Jackson. And, no, it’s not about his uncle being the legendary Bo Jackson. Instead, it’s about how Jackson arrived at Auburn already looking a lot like a college receiver. Auburn offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey attributes that to Jackson’s pedigree as a product of nationally renowned high school football powerhouse Hoover (Ala.). “You could tell he was well coached in high school, came from a really good program,” Lindsey said Thursday. “He was kind of ahead of the game maybe because of that.” SPRING PRACTICE REPORT: 2 offensive linemen competing for starting jobs absent The only thing that has been able to slow down Jackson this spring is his own body. Jackson suffered a hamstring injury earlier in camp and was in a non-contact jersey Thursday at practice. Still, the freshman is making plays at a receiver position that is already down two key players in Eli Stove and Will Hastings, who both went down with ACL tears. Jackson has impressed by excelling at areas that most freshman don’t — the finer details of playing his position. “What really stands out about Shedrick, to me, is he’s so polished,” Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said late last year, after Jackson enrolled. “He came to our camp and did a great job with his route running coming in and out of breaks. He ran a 4.4. We think he’s got a chance to be a real special player, too.” In a passing offense that wants to stretch the field vertically again this season, Jackson has the look of another deep-ball specialist. “He’s going to be a great piece to our offense,” junior receiver Nate Craig-Myers said last week. “He’s a straight-line guy that’s going to get down the field … he’s quick, he’s fast, he’s going to get open, and he looks like he’s desperate for the ball.” And even if the younger Jackson doesn’t want to hear them that much, there are comparisons to his famous uncle. “I think it’s pretty evident he’s related to Bo,” junior receiver Darius Slayton said earlier this month. “He’s a fast, strong kid. … He’s got a lot of things to learn. But he’s got a lot of promise and a lot of potential.” MORE: Auburn offense turning rash of spring practice injuries ‘into a positive’ Jackson could have a chance to make a good first impression on Auburn fans next Saturday in the annual A-Day spring game, depending on his hamstring. Lindsey is ready to see his young receiver back to full speed soon. “You know, I thought Shedrick was really making progress — for a freshman getting here early, that was big for him,” Lindsey said. “He was really making some progress. … He was doing a great job competing. Just try to get him back as quick as we can.”

I know it will be hard for some but I haven't even been thinking about Bo since his commitment. He's his own man and will carve his own path. I feel that he is our most underrated freshman. He will surprise a lot of people.

I’m thinking the better that he does, the more that the announcers will make something out of nothing by talking about his relationship to Bo. Which is the exact opposite of someone like Anfernee Mclemore. When we sucked, the announcers had to talk about his offers to MIT and Princeton a lot. When he was rolling, the less we heard about them. In short, we hope Shed is constantly drawing Bo Jackson comments, I think.?
