The real indicator in all of this is if MC, wife and kids get on a plane to visit Auburn. That means they're more interested than just talking. They want to see the town, environment, facilities, schools for kids, housing, etc. All the things that are part of "real life" outside of coaching.

This may not happen until Saturday/Sunday. Stay tuned.

Note: If the Auburn plane has already been to OU twice then the wife/kids may have already visited.

AND Mario is staying in Oregon. :puke:

The way MC handled the situation is the way Gus should have handled it in 2017.  MC didn’t use Auburn in a public way, even though the rumors were there, and got a pay raise and extension.  He did not hold Oregon hostage and everybody’s happy, well, except Auburn fans.

If Gus had done the same he would have had more good will going forward.  On to the next candidate.

If that's done deal, then we should talk to Billy Napier, Sarkisian, Fickell and Dan Quinn. Heck, it wouldn't hurt things to talk to Joe Brady while we're at it.

NONONONO.....NO and more NO to Sark. He does not have enough time in sobriety to handle the pressure of being a head coach again. What a terrible choice he would be....disaster in the making.

I’d take the risk on Sark over promoting Steele.

Let's just hire Napier to a decent 3-year deal and see how it goes...and  make it quick while no one is looking?!

Let's be realistic. Not every coach is ALL ABOUT MONEY! UO offered him double his current base salary. He has built a competitive team and has a very good incoming class of recruits. He's playing in the PAC (Pantywaist Athletic Conference) where he can win championships regularly and have a shot at the CFP ............. PLUS, they got the corner on super amazing cool uniforms and shoes!

Auburn could offer him $7M per year, but he likely would not accept it. A football program in shambles, having to face Bama, UGA, LSU and A&M ever year. Actually not so attractive to him, just as it is not for Petersen at Washington or Franklin at Penn State. There are, in fact, coaches who are not driven by lust for money and who make decisions based on many other factors.

That said, I suspect there is not yet a signed contract between Cristobal and UO. So the final result will not be known for awhile.

Thank you.  From the Oregon perspective, this coaching situation felt very different from either Chip Kelly or Willie Taggart leaving Oregon.  Namely, it didn't ever feel like Cristobal was leaving/considering leaving.

Cristobal signed the extension Thursday afternoon. Oregon signed 20ish players and have the #5 class in the nation.  Cristobal doesn't have boosters or politics to deal with like he would at Auburn.  Also, Oregon gets all the hottest/newest/most innovative Nike gear before everyone else.  There are a lot of tangible reasons for him to stay that were wildly discounted due to what can only be described as hubris.
