Discussions on religion rarely end well in a text format and I'd rather not get banned. I have the exact opposite desire. I hope one day that humanity educates themselves out of the necessity of needing a religious crutch. There are some pieces of various religions that are worth keeping (charity, kindness, hospitality, etc.) but, XYZ religion doesn't hold a monopoly on those ideals. I was raised Episcopal and was an acolyte from ages 10-18. I only kept attending after ~16 because...well, I lived with my parents until I left for Auburn and they made the rules. I gradually went from a teenage agnostic to a middle aged atheist. I find the various major religious texts rather interesting but, only as a window into the oral history/tradition of the time period. While I do find those stories somewhat interesting, I don't believe in the Jesus resurrection story any more than I believe Muhammad was escorted to a heaven by an archangel. WRT to the post that started all this, I thought it was very civil. The screen name for the poster in question has bothered me for sometime as well, and I am surprised it was allowed on the board. It is one thing to be offended by factual things like historical facts, where no offense was meant, it is something else entirely to find something offensive that was clearly intended to be "edgy" and provocative, which this posters' screen name was.
