I don't see why not.  Kids at this level don't make emotional decisions based on one game, win or lose.  They can literally sign anywhere.  They're looking for opportunity, a chance at the league, competitive NIL, connections with the coaches, a style of play they like, and so on.

If you're an elite player, you look at Auburn's roster and see opportunity to play early and make a difference.  And not the kind of difference you see at Vanderbilt or Miss State - which is to say, get them to 7 or 8 wins and a bowl game.  They know Freeze can win.  They know Auburn can win.  They know we have the resources.  And they know they can likely start or play significantly as a true freshman.

It’s clear you don’t work with young people

I would argue that 2015 aside we've only truly sucked since hte pandemic. If Hugh can get us to a 2016-19 level and keep us there (mind you I'm def less confident of that than I was yesterday), he gets to stay as long as he wants.

I feel like 2018 was a suck year as well, the first year post-Braden Smith where the OLine truly fell apart. Stidham got engaged and came back not knowing how to play football. Only bright spot was the meaningless Purdue bloodbath in the bowl game.

That’s why it was absolutely nuts to me when someone suggested just throw it up to them. “The only thing that could happen was a catch or a flag”…really? That’s it?

you're punting it if you don't and you're at mid field. so yeah through the ball if its single coverage.  if its intercepted its the same as a punt.

I've watched enough recruiting over the decades to know how it generally works.  There are exceptions, but it doesn't negate the rule.

Auburn is a brand. Kids don’t gravitate to bad brands. Kids without opportunities to go to better brands might…

Just a historically bad Auburn loss.  Nothing new.  The question will be how many recruits now flip to Bama/UGA/UF/FSU.  Hugh just killed all momentum in recruiting.  The 2024 class wasn't that great to begin with (9th in SEC), so AU absolutely cannot afford to lose people.

I don't think so. I tend to believe Hugh is so over this group that he has been spending all his waking moments setting up for the future and it clearly shows, if we get what some are assuming we get.

I think you’re right, but I don’t think I like the message it sends to our team.

Could that be a factor in how they looked uninspired today?

RIR should be billing insurance for all the therapy going on right now.

I’m putting y’all all down on my billable. Just kidding I don’t have to track billables.

One thing that continues to frustrate me is that we NEVER have a receiver get wide open. I watch all these other teams and throughout the game they’ll have a receiver get wide open for a huge gainer or a touchdown. Why is it that we are never able to confuse the defense on coverage assignments and get a receiver open like that? Are our route trees that simple? Are our receivers that bad at running routes and/or improvising when a play breaks down?

Sorry for the rant, it just baffles/frustrates me.

Question I ask daily.

Our receivers are that bad. Plus our o-line is that bad. We got nobody on either side of the ball that would start for any of the top 10 teams in the SEC

Fair. But if we can reach a point where we're at least 8 wins, 9 wins half hte time and make quarterfinals once every four years, I'd take it.

EDIT: You can laugh, but when you look at how many times each SEC team not named Alabama or Georgia would have made the 12-team playoffs, I don't necessarily think I'm lowballing it.

If I were in his position, that is what I would be doing, especially at this point.  He knows he gets a pass for his first season, but has to do something.  What to do?  Pull your hair out trying to improve this team, or work to build a future?  There are only so many hours in the day, and the latter is apparently more likely to be successful.

But won’t a lot of these guys be back next season? Shouldn’t you be building these guys up for future success? What is their attitude moving forward knowing they’ve been abandoned/neglected this season by their head coach? All these pieces Freeze is trying to add won’t matter next season if he loses the rest of the team.

So, Pro Freezers are happy?

One of them turned a comment about the escorts back on me and got some laughs out of an admin and a mod.

so probably.

Maybe, maybe not. You can turn a roster upside down with the transfer portal too. Don't think this squad is his foundation and basically has acted like that throughout the season.

Ultimately, the coaches.

Isn't the first time a coach has failed to get the attention of college kids who think they can loaf to a win against a lower tier school and end up losing.  Won't be the last.  Hopefully this is the last for us for a long time.

Yep, it's a long list to. AU didn't corner the market on this kinda embarrassing loss.

No.  But there seem to be a handful around that were rather quiet recently who suddenly found their full voice the second we looked bad again.  There are some who seem weirdly happier that they think they're being proven right after a game like this than they are when we're winning and looking good.

If that's not you, great.  It didn't apply to you.  If it did, then just wear the well-fitting shoe.  Either way, I've given you nothing to complain about.

Welp back to the Birmingham bowl

AU deserves to go back to nothing. Bowl game ? This team does not deserve a fun bowl trip. They need to be in the damn weight room.

s***ty coaches , s***ty WRs , s***ty line, and s***ty QB. But everyone gets paid now. There is your answer. Im frustrated and almost feel like this game was thrown on purpose.
