Cam Newton to play quarterback at Super Bowl LVIII event

Cam Newton will play quarterback again on Friday – not in the NFL but in an NFL-sponsored event.

Newton and Michael Vick will serve as the quarterbacks for a flag-football game in conjunction with Super Bowl LVIII at Play Football Field within the Super Bowl Experience presented by Toyota, the NFL’s interactive football theme park in the Mandalay Bay South Convention Center in Las Vegas.

The game continues a series of creator and artist flag-football games that began at Super Bowl LVI two years ago.

Newton will pay quarterback for the team captained by Grammy-winning record producer Metro Boomin against a team representing Grammy-winning rapper 21 Savage.

Newton’s teammates will be Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones, choreographer, singer and actress Teyana Taylor, rapper Offset, TikTok star Keith Lee, RDCWorld content creator Mark Phillips, comedian Funny Marco and content creator AJ Greene.

Vick will play with Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson, music-video director Cole Bennett, rapper Tobe Nwigwe, comedian Druski, rapper J.I.D. and AMP content creator Duke Dennis.

Newton won the Heisman Trophy while leading Auburn to an undefeated record and the BCS national championship for the 2010 NFL season. The first player picked in the NFL Draft, Newton won the league Most Valuable Player Award for the 2015 season and has scored more touchdowns than any quarterback in NFL history.

Newton has not played since the 2021 season.

The flag-football game is scheduled to start at 10 p.m. CST Friday.
