Question? for Dems, Repubs & Independents

I recently heard Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi saying that the tax relief will increase debt, favor the rich and do little for middle-class Americans.

My question is this: Is that debt is created by Congress spending too much of our money, or by citizens paying less in taxes?

Demos talk about tax relief as if it's money being taken out of the government's pocket, when in fact it's money being left in the pockets of the hard-working Americans who earned it. They (Dims) also refuse to believe that lower taxes stimulate the economy—yet business is booming, unemployment is at 4.7 percent and the economy has created more than two million jobs in the past year.

Mike, Keynesian Economics would tell you that in the current overspending by the government that full employment and a robust economy is a certainty. In short we have spent so much money over budget that the excess cash has forced us to spend more, produce more, and therefore hire more leading to a full employment and a robust economy.

This is really the complete abdication of what you and I really support in conservative politics. We, I guess I am talking for you too, are for a balanced budget with some leeway for the feds to overspend in times of need to grow the economy. Right now, we are so over spent it is ludicrous. Our Republican Congress and President are acting like a Tip O'Neill Congress. Reagan would be horrified by what the Rupublicans have become under 43s leadership or lack thereof.

We need a John Kasich, Bob Gramm, Newt Gingrich leader and we need him now! A full economy with the budget so unbalanced is a no-brainer economically. But we cannot sustain this rate of overspending. Tip O'Neill lead the House during the Reagan years and overspent like a mad man. (Remember all revenue bills originate in the House.) Now we have Hastert acting just like O'neill and Bush 43 not vetoing anything. It is pork run amok.

The Republicans are now acting like the Dems did just 12 years ago. ladel out the pork and keep their rear-ends in power. That is how we got 98% incumbency rates in the House back then. It took Newt, with a real economic plan, The Contract with America, to ooverturn it. I do not like the unbalanced budget. I fear the Dems getting back in power as well. But I also fear more this bunch just blindly borrowing and overspending. Face it, the Dems will never get organized enough to ever have a coherent policy and campaign as one.

Lewis black the comedian is exactly right. The Dems have NO IDEAS, and The Reps have only BAD Ones!

How will this play out? The Fed is already tightening up the money to slow down inflation. Inflation is the worst thing to have. As the Fed tightens money the economy will slow and unemployment will go up again, just like in the past. We have to balance the budget to get the longterm economy on sound fottng though.

I believe the Fed action is too little too late. If the Dems get power back, they'll only continue this irresponsible spending spree, and worse.

NO tax is a good tax

ANY tax CUT is a good thing.

Just my personal opinion. :)

I think there needs to be a balanced budget amendment and a line-item veto provision, needs to be passed in a way that the SCOUS will approve. Something has got to be done to control bipartisan pork barrel spending. If they don't want to approve line-item veto powers, maybe there should be a low passed that would prohibit any amendments to appropriation bills and absolutely limit all expenditures to the intended project.

Senator Lott Ignores Citizens of Mississippi Who Are Against Pork

May 05, 2006 06:32 AM

The Sun Herald touts the Senate approved 28.9 billion in Katrina relief including the 700 million to move the CSX railroad. Cochran and U.S. Sen. Trent Lott, R-Miss., said money in the bill would relocate the CSX rail line, replace the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, cover uninsured hurricane-related losses at Northrop Grumman Ship Systems and replace damaged voting machines

Other Mississippi money in the bill passed Thursday by the Senate:

• Department of Commerce: $10 million for mapping Mississippi fishing grounds in order to begin underwater debris removal; $15 million to the National Marine Fisheries Service to provide technical assistance to Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama for oyster bed and shrimp ground rehabilitation; and $20 million for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Science Center in Pascagoula to complete repair and reconstruction.

• Department of Defense: $44.7 million for Seabees; $103.5 million to Keesler Air Force Base for planning and design of construction projects; and $5.8 million to the Mississippi Air National Guard in Meridian and Gulfport.

• NASA: $35 million for the Stennis Space Center and the NASA Shared Services Center for costs associated with Hurricane Katrina.

• Department of Health and Human Services: $6 million for an emergency communications network for Mississippi community health centers, and $20 million for mosquito abatement through the Centers for Disease Control.

• Department of Homeland Security: $103.9 million for the Coast Guard's shipbuilding program on the Gulf Coast.

• Department of Labor: $27 million for the reconstruction of the Gulfport Job Corps center.

• National Park Service: $83 million for historic preservation, of which Mississippi should receive $37.5 million.

• Department of Transportation: At least $10 million to the Coast Transit Authority for emergency response and recovery of public transportation equipment, facilities and services.

While getting the veterans back home by rebuilding the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport is a worthy goal, I can only shake my head at the cooperate welfare involved in covering uninsured hurricane related losses at Northrop Grumman Ship Systems. I only wonder why their uninsured losses are worthy of government help when so many small business owners are still struggling due to their uninsured losses.

Good news for those who want pork trimmed, Boehner said, "The House will not take up an emergency supplemental spending bill for Katrina and the war in Iraq that spends one dollar more than what the president asks for. Period." But according to the MS Press “For the sake of the people of the Mississippi Coast, if the House wants a fight, then we hope the Senate is ready to rumble”. Sorry MS PRESS but 700 million to relocate the CSX in no way benefits the average Gulf Coast citizen. In another article the Press tells how major rebuilding projects in Ocean Springs could be put on hold for at least the next 18 months, and the city will need congressional help to speed up the process. But the needs of Ocean Springs and the majority of Jackson County are being ignored in order to pander to the casinos in Harrison County by removing the unsightly CSX railroad from their proximity.

Apparently Senator Lott is ignoring all the citizens of Mississippi who are opposed to 700 million being spent to relocate the CSX railroad. “Lott credited the senators who supported these projects with taking the time to look at Mississippi's continued needs in the aftermath of Katrina and casting thoughtful votes despite the efforts of outside groups "to deny our state funding that only the federal government can provide”.

I am more upset with congress than I am with Bush. Bush is trying to be all things to all people. I want him to hold true to what we voted him in for. The SS issue should have been forced down the dems throat until something was done.

As for congress, they have absolutely gone power mad. They were supposed to use this power to force more fiscal restraint. But they've done nothing but copulate to the dems. I see many excellent grass roots republicans where I live. I think its time for new blood and not dem blood either.

I don't think the issue is whether tax cuts may have some stimulative effect on the economy. The question is can you keep cutting taxes and expect to grow your way out of a deficit when you keep increasing spending. Republicans want to spend more and cut taxes. They all seem to have flunked math. Their personal checkbooks must be a mess.
