Tuberville-Dye SEC record

There is a thread on the ITAT premium board about our recent success in SEC play, compared to Pat Dye. Here are some facts I posted in the thread...

From 1986-1989 Auburn posted a 21-4-1 record in conference play. From 2003-2005, Auburn is 21-4-0 under CTT.

Of the the three SEC titles won from 87-89, one of them was a three-way split in 1989. If CTT was coaching under the SEC format prior to 1992, we would have one outright SEC title in 2004 and we would have split with LSU in 2005 for a second SEC title. If we at least have the same SEC record as the SEC champion (regular season) in 2006, it's the same as winning three consecutive SEC titles when comparing CTT's record to Dye's.

It's a tight race. We play more conference games now than during the period of 1986-1989, which is considered one of the most successful runs in school history.

Again the records are close when comparing 1986-1989 to 2003-2005.

86-89: 21-4-1

03-05: 21-4-0

The 86-89 teams faced SEC competition with a combined win pct. of .566 and the 03-05 squads faced a win pct. of .563. Of the 26 SEC opponents faced from 86-89, seven of them had a win pct of .750 (9-3) or better and the 03-05 squads faced eleven in 25 SEC games.

Auburn's SEC Win Pct:

1981-1992: .635 (Dye's 12 years)

1981-1987: .679 (Dye's 1st seven)

1999-2005: .672 (CTT's 1st seven)
