I was doing some wikipedia browsing, and happened to notice that Timothy Leary, the world's most famous hippie drug advocate, is a uat graduate.

Not exactly a point of pride to have him on your list of alums.

Maybe he concocted that infamous Crimson Kool-Aid?

And Jim Nabors. Goooalleeee.

(Hate to sound dumb but who's the chick?)

Collette Connell, the woman who kissed $aban after he got off the plane, and later was arrested for DUI.

I've heard that before. I don't think he actually graduated, however, the version I heard was that he attended briefly.

Per The Wikipedia Article:

He received a bachelor's degree in psychology at the University of Alabama in 1943.

I see your 5 CEO's and raise you one astronaut. That's six astronauts (in case you learned math at UAT).

Hank Hartsfield

Clifton Williams

Ken Mattingly

James Voss

Kathryn Thornton

Jan Davis

Also a Marine Corps Commandant, 2 chairmen of the Joint Chiefs, the creator of the Arlo & Janis cartoon, one of the founders of Wikipedia, COO of Apple, the founder of SEAL Team 6, and of course Kimberly Paige.

I dont think you realize, but without the Van de Graaff machine.....it would be pretty hard to understand how to send a man to space. Not that the machine is a direct reason to send a man to space. But, it would be hard to study and understand how electricity reacts in certain environments. Either way, very impressive with the 6 astronauts too.

I remember reading a few years ago that Auburn had more grads as CEO's of Fortune 500 companies than any other school. I don't know if thats still true, and I couldn't find a link, but I think it was in the Auburn Alumni Magazine.

And by the way, my thumbprint went into space with Jim Voss for his time in the space station. I'm pretty sure he's spent more time in space than any other American.

The only really good thing that I ever saw come from a Van de Graaff generator was the time my physics prof at Auburn nearly knocked himself out with a hand powered one. He was bent over cranking away and his nose got a little too close to the ball at the top. When the voltage got high enough ZAP! You could here the arc from across the room. He got up off the floor and his eyes were all watered up. That was pretty much the end of class that day.

That reminds me of the time I was mixing some salt water for my aquarium and had a pump to mix the water and it splashed some water on the concrete floor. I went to unplug it to turn it off. It was kinda sticking, so I reached behind the plug to pull it out and when I did I bridged the prongs. My whole body tensed, I got some whiplash and my arm jerked back so hard, I nearly knocked myself out. I had a killer headache for two days. I'm a little more careful with saltwater and electricity now.

Wow, that is pretty funny. Seriously, I would love to see one of my professors do something goofy like that.

Isn't Bill Heard an Auburn grad? I think Bill Heard Chevrolet is the largest car dealership in the U.S. (or world), if not second to AutoNation.

I did a short Google search and he's actually an Alabama grad.

Funny thing was, when i did the search, i saw two links for reporting bad businesses and two for class action lawsuits before i got to a bio. I guess that probably happens with all big business though.
