Thompson’s Senate Scorecard

By Michael Luo

With former Tennessee Senator Fred D. Thompson looking more and more like a presidential candidate, his productivity while he was in Congress will likely face scrutiny.

A scouring of he legislative website of the Library of Congress, from 1995 to 2002, when Mr. Thompson was in the Senate, yields a total of five bills that became law for which he was the head sponsor. A sixth passed the Senate and was replaced by an identical House bill that was eventually signed by the president.

The bills include the naming of a post office and courthouse in Cookeville, Tenn., a private bill that granted permanent residency status to a young Bolivian girl getting treatment for cancer and her family and several other minor pieces of legislation. A quick comparison with Senator John McCain, his rival for the Republican presidential nomination, for the same period turns up 17 bills that became law for which Mr. McCain was the lead sponsor.

No argument here.

But but but...

He looks like me and talks like me and more than likely enjoys fried chicken. Isn't that enough?

Oddly enough, Thompson's supporters will be the ones who derail his campaign. Hello Washington, Hillary!

Please. Get a life. I don't really care if he didn't try to overhaul the system. He voted on the bills that were presented in a way that I agree with. Therefore his views are more aligned with mine. Kerry's views, along with his freeloader life, were never in agreement with any of my views. We need a man who can lead others right now, we don't need a man who tried to push through every bill he could think of. We'll call those guys "advisors" to President Thompson.

It's obvious that the Left Wing media outlets see him as a threat, or they would not be after him before he has actually announced to run. Fred Thompson may be the man to provide a real threat to the Hillary/Obama 08 run. Would he win????? It depends on what happens between now and then.

In my true opinion......................... THEY ALL SUCK!!!!!! Thompson may be the best bet for me in the end, but for now, I see a pool of jesters in the court.

None of these people have what it takes to run this country except Rudi, Fred, and yes.......Mike Huckabee.

To be honest....no one has since George H. Bush.

It's so funny how you guys were for burning John Kerry at the stake for having a rather unaccomplished Senate record. Yet, now, it's totally okay that Thompson sat in DC with his thumb in his plug simply because he agrees (at least you think he does) with you. It's completely fine if you disagree with Kerry, but at least show a little consistency. Believe it or not, you're not contractually mandated to back Thompson up in every curve in the road.

And, freeloader life? Google "Bush's Fidelity 3" or "Kennebunkport compound" for further evidence. I doubt 'ol Fred is living in a Nashville trailer park, either.

Actually most people despised John Kerry because he was/is lying SOB. While his "unaccomplished Senate record" was a point of ridicule, it was never the defining point of ridicule. Mr. Kerry provided those major points of ridicule on almost a daily basis. Much like Barack Obama has been doing lately whenever he opens his mouth.

How is he a lying SOB? Produce a Kerry lie. Yes, there may be one, but none immediately come to me. Keep in mind, there is a difference between a difference in political opinion and a flat out lie.

I haven't endorsed anyone yet. Neither side has named it's candidate yet. Why are so many lefties so out to get Thompson. I mean...as soon as a hint that Thompson would run hit the rumor mills, the DNC began mass emailing it's puppets to start attacking him. Why are the Dems scared of him? Has he even actually said he will run?

A question for Tex and Wincrimson. Who do you support right now and why?

I haven't chosen a candidate yet. Your complaint regarding Thompson is misplaced, though. He's raised over three million dollars and is already on his third campaign manager. He was in Iowa this past weekend. He's not formally announced, but he has definitely indicated he is running. He's flirtation with announcing and all the excitement on the right about him is what has caused the attention, not the Dems. This article sounds like it was released by McCain's folks. Thompson earlier complained that Republican oppo research folks from other campaigns were doing the digging. The Dems will worry about him later, if he's still around. Right now most of them are trying to overcome Hillary. Frankly, I once thought he would be a strong candidate, but the more I know, I don't think so. Please nominate him. Your best bet, though, is Huckabee.

I like Huckabee. I removed my Thompson sig for now because it's just taking him so long to declare and state some policy positions that I'm withholding judgment until a little more is known on everyone. What I do know is that it's not Guiliani or Romney for me unless they actually get the nomination and are going up against Hillary.

I had thought you would like Huckabee. His pro-life stance is unquestioned and his style is very likable. I've long thought he is the most electable Republican this time around. We'll see where his strong Iowa straw poll finish get's him. I think when more folks start paying attention, he'll rise in the polls.

I don't think my complaint is totally misplaced. This may have been put out by McCain. It could have been put out by Bush. It could very well be put out by Howard Dean. Months ago, The DNC sent out an email attacking him before he had raised any money. A fundraising email stating "we need to stop him' and "support our effort to get the truth out about Fred Thompson." All this before his original, supposed to be, gonna do it, no longer thinking about it official announcement that was planned for July.

First off how about Christmas in Cambodia?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/artic...-2004Aug23.html

Would you like something more recent?

“We heard that argument over and over again about the bloodbath that would engulf the entire Southeast Asia, and it didn’t happen!” John Kerry

I would say there were thousands of Vietnameese & even more Cambodians murdered. In fact "people had a difficult time adjusting to that and so they were killed...by over 1,000 a day, everyday for four years." But then for leftist democrats that's no big thing is is?

Pol Pot

AKA 'Brother Number One'. Birth name Saloth Sar.

Country: Cambodia.

Kill tally: One to three million (or between a quarter and a third of the country's population).

John Kerry has a plan for Iraq.

John Kerry will make health care available to each and every American.

The "get stuck in Iraq" was a poor choice of words. Dumbassery had him by the ears that day. However, is it a lie? I don't think so. And, why bring up his health care plan and views on Iraq. Those have nothing to do with lies. Remember what I told you about difference in opinion?

I'll definitely give you "Christmas in Cambodia", though. That's a definite lie.
