TUSCALOOSA | The attorney for two of the three University of Alabama football players charged with disorderly conduct last month pleaded not guilty in District Court this morning.

Brandon Fanney and Roy Upchurch, both 21, did not appear in court on this first day of classes, but attorney Jason Neff entered not guilty pleas for the sophomore athletes.

Police arrested the pair and Brandon Deaderick in front of The Legacy bar on University Boulevard in the early morning hours of July 15 after they allegedly caused a disturbance.

Neff is asking the District Attorney’s office to provide some discovery material for the case. No further court dates have been set.

According to police records, Fanney and Upchurch became disruptive and uncooperative with police as Deaderick was being arrested. The reports state that neither of the men were intoxicated.

They were angry because they were denied entry to the bar, according to the police report.

Upchurch’s court file indicates that police sprayed him with pepper spray after he resisted arrest. A police officer wrote “he was charging at officers, displaying tumultuous behavior.” He wrote that Upchurch yelled profanities at officers and incited the crowd.

“Subject became verbally abusive toward officer and would not cooperate. Subject would drag his feet and tried to cause a bigger scene.”

Upchurch was cuffed in front after he informed officers he had just undergone shoulder surgery.

The officer told Upchurch that he would call UA head football coach Nick Saban, to which Upchurch replied “F--- him and f—y’all, he didn’t care,” the officer wrote. When another officer asked him to calm down, he said “UAPD officers don’t mean s--- to him”, the officer wrote.

Fanney’s court file indicates that he was denied entry to the bar.

“Subject was told by several employees, including a co-owner, that he would not be allowed entry into The Legacy due to refusal to follow the dress code. Subject continued to trouble the employees,” the officer wrote.

She wrote that Fanney attempted to “assist” Deaderick as he was being arrested. He yelled at police and refused to cooperate when he was asked to move away, the officer wrote.

She sprained her ankle chasing Fanney and was treated at DCH Regional Medical Center.

This sounds like a case that should have been settled out of court. It's clear that they're going to get booted from one end of the courtroom to the other. This is going to get publicly ugly for those kids.

In the court of public opinion, Saban has already said there would be no suspensions, and I think that's just brilliant.

Just my opinion...don't want to hurt anyone's feelings or start any name calling.

The part that concerns me most--

If you were the coach and heard that said about you, wouldn't that make you do something?
