January 20, 2009 - The day America will look at it's self differently. The world will look at America differently. And we will all be inspired to do better and live out the true meaning of the American creed.

From Europe:

Most Europeans favour Obama

EUROPEAN Union leaders, policymakers and ordinary citizens are transfixed by the fiercely fought Democratic presidential race that has pit Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton against each other in a neck and neck battle for cash and votes.

Europe’s fascination for US politics is not difficult to understand. EU officials and diplomats recognise that while the 27-nation bloc has ambitions to become a global player, the US remains the world’s one and only superpower.

Whoever wields power in Washington makes policy that affects the rest of the world and influences the future political direction of Europe. Cooperation with Washington is therefore imperative.

Unmistakably, after years of tense and acrimonious relations with the Bush administration over issues such as Iraq, Afghanistan and the Middle East, EU policymakers are hoping to establish a more balanced and even amicable relationship with the next man or woman in the White House.

Second, having faced the wrath not only of President George W. Bush but also the so-called hawks and neocons in the Republican Party, most EU officials make no secret of their hope that the next president will be a Democrat.

But there is more to Europe’s interest in events on the other side of the Atlantic than meets the eye. Interestingly, many Europeans — even women — appear to be rooting for a victory for Obama, believing this will mean more change in American foreign policy than electoral success for Clinton.

In the Netherlands, a poll by the Algemeen Dagblad newspaper found that of the 150 members of the country’s House of Representatives, 58 would vote for Obama if they could and 40 for Clinton. Only 23 would vote for a Republican, with no further breakdown given. And in France, newsweekly Le Nouvel Observateur gave Obama 61 per cent of support to Clinton’s 30 per cent, with 3,300 votes cast.

But even if these wishes do not come true — there are hopes that Obama will change the spirit and the tone of the currently strained transatlantic conversation.

Nicaraguan leader calls Obama's campaign 'revolutionary'

MANAGUA, Nicaragua: President Daniel Ortega, who led the 1979 revolution in Nicaragua, says Barack Obama's presidential bid is a "revolutionary" phenomenon in the United States.

"It's not to say that there is already a revolution under way in the U.S. ... but yes, they are laying the foundations for a revolutionary change," the Sandinista leader said Wednesday night as he accepted an honorary doctorate from an engineering university.

Europe wants us to be like them...

So they can drag us down into mediocraty with them. They know that a democrat is their best hope. Europe is a horrible place to try and surpass anyone's expectations. The job market is horrible. Inflation is bad. And the people are generally happy with being average. If a dim gets elected, we will move toward that. But somehow, the dims will find a way to link it all back to Bush.

I NEVER want to be like Europe. WE ARE BETTER THAN THAT. Always have been. I wish dims would strive for something more.

If we are to conform to the likes of those folks, then we are reverting back to the days of monarchy. Why not allow Great Britain to come back and take control.

This is what scares me the most about the "New" Democratic Party. What happened to the Middle Class Champions of old. Disgrace.

Not sure I am understanding the correlation you are making. Obama seems to be garnering support world-wide and you find a way to relate that to the erosion of the middle class?

Of course you can't see it. It is behind achmed Obama and you can't see past him.

Europe is sooooo far behind us in everything. But the libs seem to think that we need to be more cultured...just like Europe. The rest of the world would love to see the US falter. They realize the best chance of this happening is with achmed Obama as president.

I bet those Obama supporters don't even know that Bush isn't up for re-election. Idiots.

And who gives a flying flip what Europe thinks ? We LEFT that old world pig stye in order to form a NEW nation, with NEW ideas based on Freedom. Seems many want to surrender their freedoms and rejoin the old world and it's old world problems.

No thank you.

so you guys think that everyone lives in mud huts, drives wagons, and eats gruel in europe? Don't be so close minded to the ways of the rest of the world. not endorsing obama at all but to carelessly throw out unfounded statements about other countries is exactly why they dislike us, its arrogance, something you guys preach to the bammers about all the time.

When I hear the likes of Justice Breyer stating that we should use more international law in rulings of OUR Supreme Court, we're talking absurdity and not " open mindedness " .

"What you're looking for are the standards of decency of American society," Scalia said. "What does an opinion of a wise Zimbabwe judge have to do with what Americans believe?

"Doesn't it seem arrogant to think I can decide moral views for penology, death penalty and abortion?" he said, arguing that elected legislatures should make those decisions

- Antony Scalia.

If it's that good, you go live there. Unless you are rich, you will be sorely disappointed. They have the rich and the poor. The folks in between do not even compare to our standard of living. Mud huts, no. But you damn sure can't live the American dream if you aren't in America. Never heard of the "European" dream.

Go to Brazil if you want mud huts.

There's about 3-4 who regularly post on this board whose world knowledge you could put in thimble.
