Eric Smith academically ineligible for Outback Bowl

AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn running back Eric Smith has been ruled academically ineligible and will miss the Outback Bowl, head coach Gene Chizik said Friday.

Smith, a sophomore from Seffner, Fla., remains a member of the team, Chizik said. He was hopeful the running back would be back in January for offseason workouts...

Why do you think that? Chizik says he's still on the team and he hopes to have him back for January workouts.

Though he didn't score a lot or pile up the rushing yards, Smith made a bunch of crucial catches for us this year. He's also an under appreciated blocker.

Here's hoping he can successfully hit the books and be back on track by spring practice.

He better grow up fast. There are some studs coming to Auburn that will take his place.

One running back that comes in with a lot of hype? Haven't we learned by now that 5 star's are not locks to be successful at Auburn? I hope they all are studs, but plenty of time.

That guy can't get out of his own way. Unbelievable. You're in school for the SCHOOL part. The football is a luxury. Luxury disappears when you ignore necessity.
