Lot of chatter on Texas boards about G Varez Ward transferring to AU. Can't find a reputable site with information. Believe he went to HS in Alabama? Do we have any more slots after the PG signing today? He started the first 3 games for TX at PG last year and blew out his quad during warmups Guess Barbee had a connection with him from UTEP.

He'd have to apply for and get NCAA approval for a medical hardship transfer if he wants to play without sitting out a year. Such a transfer is possible if a family member has a serious illness and the player needs to go to college closer to home.

I have no idea if Ward has such a family member, or if so, whether he's requested a medical hardship transfer or not.

Don't worry about a slot. If a player of Ward's ability becomes available, room will be made for him. Someone else will be encouraged to transfer out, or their scholarship will simply not be renewed. A current signee could also be "released" from their Letter of Intent.
