Georgia Post-Game Notes...Nov. 15, 2008 vs. Auburn

Trailing In the 4th Quarter Again And Respond With A Win: For the

second straight week, Georgia (9-2, 6-2 SEC) found itself trailing by

three points in the fourth quarter. Last week at Kentucky, Georgia

trailed 31-28 at the 14:26 mark and 38-35 at the 12:15 mark. The

Bulldogs scored the game-winning TD over the Wildcats with 1:54 left for

a 42-38 victory (11-yard pass from Matthew Stafford to A.J. Green).

Today, Auburn went up 13-10 with 11:05 left to play. Georgia responded

with a 6-play, 60-yard TD drive for a 17-13 lead. On the drive capped by

a 17-yard pass from Matthew Stafford to A.J. Green, the Bulldogs were

aided by three Tiger penalties including a kickoff out of bounds. Then,

AU drove to the Bulldog 21 and was stopped on 4th and 3. They would get

one more shot and Georgia held them at the 14.  Today marked Georgia*s

16th victory when tied or trailing in the 4th quarter under Coach Richt.

Bulldog sophomore Rennie Curran led the team in tackles again with nine

as he leads the SEC with 98 tackles.

Winning With Richt Including On the Road: Georgia improved to 30-4 in

an opponent*s stadium under coach Mark Richt. The Bulldogs finish the

2008 regular season with a 5-0 record on an opponent*s field, winning

at South Carolina, Arizona State, #11 LSU, Kentucky and Auburn. Overall,

Richt is now 81-21 in eight seasons at the helm including 9-2 this year

(6-2 SEC).

Steady Day For Receiving Duo: Freshman FLK A.J. Green led the team in

receiving with 5 catches for 81 yards including the go-ahead TD pass, a

17-yarder with 8:24 left for a 17-13 edge. Green leads the SEC this year

with 51 catches for 887 yards. Senior SE Mohamed Massaquoi had five

catches for 61 yards. He ranks fifth in school history with 2,092 yards

receiving.

Fourth Quarter Comeback For Stafford: Junior QB Matthew Stafford

(15-for-24, 215 yards, 2 TDs) is now 26-6 as a starter including 3-0

versus Auburn. For the second week in a row, he led the team on an

eventual game-winning TD drive in the fourth quarter. Today, it was 6

plays in 60 yards.

Big Day For Moreno: Sophomore TB Knowshon Moreno (22 carries, 131

yards) registered his 13th career game with more than 100 yards rushing.

At the half, he had 92 yards on 12 carries. He has 1,244 yards this

season, the 8th best tally in school history. For his career, he has

2,578 rushing yards, which ranks seventh in Bulldog history. Also, he

had his first career TD catch, covering 35 yards to help Georgia take a

7-6 lead with 3:08 left in the first half. He finished with a

career-high four catches and 58 yards receiving.

Georgia-Auburn Series: With the 17-13 victory Georgia now has won three

straight over Auburn for the first time since 1982. It is the seventh

most played rivalry in the country with today*s meeting the 112th in

the series that began in 1892. The Bulldogs are now 14-9-2 against the

Tigers here in Auburn. It was the 48th time in the series that the

margin was seven points or less, and Georgia is now 22-18-8 in these

close contests.

Points off Turnovers: UGA got no points off one fumble, it led to a

punt; AU got 6 points off one UGA fumble for a 6-0 first quarter lead.

Red Zone: Georgia was 2-3 (21-yard FG blocked; 27-yard FG, 17-yard TD

pass) For the 2nd time this year Georgia had a field goal blocked. LSU

tipped a 55-yarder.  In the 3rd quarter, freshman Blair Walsh made a

27-yarder. Auburn was 0-for-2 (a Fumble, recovered by Georgia*s Geno

Atkins, Turned it over on downs with 1 second left at the 14).

Injury Report: Senior TE Tripp Chandler injured his left knee late in

the second quarter and returned in the second half.

Up Next: After an open date, Georgia (9-2, 6-2 SEC) closes out the

regular season Nov. 29 in Athens against Ga. Tech. It will be the

Bulldogs first home game in 42 days, the longest stretch for a team

between home dates in the country this year. Georgia leads the series

with Tech 59-36-5 including 7-0 under Richt.
