ROLL CALL: Most Famous Person You've Met

Recommended Posts

ok...let's hear it WENners...who's the most famous person you've personally met.

it can't be in a crowded setting where this person simply passed by...it's gotta be an actual MEET... either a handshake or address of some sort.

i've been racking my brain, and mine is pretty lame...

the best i can come up w/ is this:

former mayor of NYC, david dinkins...

as well as john mcenroe's father...

both were at an event here in Winston associated with the Davis Cup held here last year...

NeXT?

I have met Tom Wopat or Luke Duke from Dukes of Hazzard, I have taken a picture with him.

Bernadette Peters or Annie from Annie Get your Gun and she has played in numerous hit movies, I have also met her and took a picture with her.

I met Bernadette and Tom outside a broadway show in NYC.

I also meet Ryan Sandberg when the Cubs were in Atlanta playing the Braves, and no it was not AT the game, I met him in Macy's next to the hotel that the visiting team stays in when they play in Atlanta.

I met Brett Favre at the Bruno's golf tournament in Birmingham a few years ago. My neighbor at the time was buddies with him from college. He seemed like a nice, country feller!

Famous/Semi-Famous people I have met and talked to:

tons of AU players that are only famous to us

Charles Barkley

Bo Jackson

Kevin Smith (of DC Talk)

Sean Patrick Scott (American Pie, Dude Where's My Car?)

George Teague (Bama & Dallas Cowboys linebacker...I went to high school with him)

Tommy Sims (former bassist for Christian band White Heart, former bassist for Bruce Springsteen, now a producer)

Jars of Clay (used to work for their record company)

Steadman Shealey (former Bama QB...I was a young kid and we met him in a restaurant in Florida. He sat me in his lap and tried for five minutes to get me to say "Roll Tide" and I absolutely refused)

Jeff Rutledge (former Bama QB...he goes to my church now)

Dana Glover (Dreamworks pop artist...had songs of some movie soundtracks...see www.danaglover.com. She's actually a close personal friend of my wife and I)

I know there are some others, but that's all I can remember right now.

Yep. I attended JD and Lee actually. Moved before my senior year and those pinheads at the superintendents office wouldn't let me finish at JD. Lee was actually a better school...nicer people overall, etc. But there were people at JD I had gone to school with since 7th grade. I didn't know anyone at Lee. So it was sad. Plus, since I didn't graduate from JD, I don't get any of their reunion info and missed my 10 year reunion. Going to the Lee one really wouldn't mean that much to me.

I graduated from JD also, and that school has gone to pots. I was happy to get out of there, not because I was done with HS but because I could not stand the school overall

I had heard it was a pit now. JD was sort of the "it" school when I was growing up. It was located in a newer section of town and all the "rich kids" went there. It was a real haves vs have-nots situation because the surrounding area was relatively affluent, but they bussed kids from West Montgomery over there too, plus all the minority/majority transfers.

Gradually, as JD started having problems with gangs and such, parents who could just started sending their kids to ACA, Trinity, or MA and left it to the troublemakers. Sad.

As my political views are well known, my list of the best of the best should surprise no one:

Gen Colin Powell (kind of a jerk)

Barbara Bush (SO WONDERFUL!!!!)

Jack Kemp (typical politician)

and the best of all...

Lady Margaret Thatcher. I was so overwhelmed by meeting her that I cried... tho not in front of her, when I walked off. :P She has been my role model for so long, and I told her that. She seemed semi-flattered...

I have also met former Congresswoman (and mother to pinko journalist Cokie Roberts) Lindy Boggs. She was so very gracious and kind - and she IS southern, so I could easily overlook her lib views.

When I worked in D.C., I shared an elevator with Sen Bob Dole, and saw the back of Pres GHW Bush's head. I know that doesn't count, but thought I would mention it.
