We don't have a starting pitcher who is consistently a "shut down" guy like we did with Casey Mize.  We have a great closer and serviceable pitchers. What we've had until now is superior hitting. But other teams now  have a pretty good idea of how to pitch to our hitters, and that's what you're seeing now.

To be fair Gonzalez didn’t make it out of the first inning against MSU last year in his start. But he proved he turned a corner within in the last year. Bright didn’t improve as much.

Bright was pitching well in that inning.  Two of the strikeouts were on 97 MPH heaters.  This game is different then Ole Miss in that we have hit the ball hard a few times but  always to people.

Haven't really had "superior" hitting other than the regionals. Gonzalez is a shut down pitcher, IMO. Not the same level of Mize but he's only had 1 really bad outing all season.

Gonzo is a pitch to contact guy......lots of pop ups and ground balls. You might hit him but it's not going to get you anywhere most of the time. That's why he stays in games longer when he's on his game. He isn't a hard fast ball pitcher who tires out early.

Damn it all. Bobby with the strike out and bone head interference. Lead-off single, Sonny strikes out, Bobby strikes out, and gets called for interference on Brody stealing second. End of inning.

We're a complete mess on offense right now.

Finally a lead off hit! Moore with an infield single. SS did a nice job just to keep it in the infield but not even close enough to get Moore.

DiChiara strikes out swinging. Our best batter can't even stop striking out now.

Peirce falls behind 0-2 ... strikes out a ball way in the dirt. and then his horrible swing got him in front of the catcher for batters interference as Moore tries to steal 2nd. Awesome job.

According to an ex baseball player just this morning what we have had this year is one heck of a coaching job.

Maybe it was a postseason number or something I read.  Anyways.  We ain't getting it done.

I mean, there's a lot of stuff I can pick out from last year. lol Gonzalez has been great out of 1 performance this entire season.

I know, that's why I called him a shut down guy. He can easily go 8 innings, which he's done before. And he doesn't give up a lot of runs. He always keeps us in games. But our offense is not very good.

No clue ... I do know he gave up a lot of walks last outing and we can't even draw walks on this guy.

We could have Max Fried on the bump right now and it wouldn't matter. Guys are pressing, our approach is terrible, and it doesnt seem like we've adjusted whatsoever

There is zero question Gonzalez is our #1. The debate isn't between those two. Butch went with Trace's experience over Mason's stuff, and so far, it looks like a good move. Trace is pitching well. That second RBI was a fluke. He's just suffering from lack of run support.

Bright has settled in great the last 2 innings.

3 pitch fly out, 2 pitch ground out, then gets ahead 0-2, several foul offs in a row before the first ball of the at bat. 1-2 count ... great at bat as he fouls off a couple more before evening the count. 11 pitch full count strike out!
