  • Over the past 14 seasons, Auburn's defense has primarily operated out of a 4-man front. Auburn's defense has averaged 78.0 tackles for loss per season.

  • The 2012 Auburn defense had 66 tackles for loss, the lowest overall total by an Auburn defense from 1999-2012.

  • Auburn's front-4 on defense has averaged 46.7 tackles for loss over the past 14 seasons.

  • The 2012 Auburn defensive front registered 33.5 tackles for loss, the third lowest total by an Auburn defensive front since 1999.

  • Over the past 14 seasons, Auburn's defensive front was responsible for 59.9 percent of the tackles for loss. The 2012 Auburn front-4 were responsible for 50.8 percent, which was a drop from the 52.7 percent in 2011.. The 2007 front-4 had the highest percentage of tackles for loss over the past 14 seasons with 79.1 percent.

  • Over the past 14 seasons the Auburn interior line (DT) has accounted for 28.8 percent of the tackles for loss. The 2012 DT's accounted for 21.2 percent, which was the 5th lowest percentage over the past 14 seasons but an improvement from the 13.0 percent in 2011.

  • Auburn's front-7 over the past 14 seasons has averaged 67.7 tackles for loss per season, 86.8 percent of Auburn's overall tackles for loss.

  • The 2012 Auburn front-7 accounted for 45 tackles for loss, which was 68.2 percent of the team's tackles for loss. This was the lowest amount of tackles for loss by Auburn's front-7 over the past 14 seasons and the only time the percentage dipped below 75 percent. The front-7 accounted for 87.0 percent of the team's tackles for loss in 2011.

  • Auburn's 2012 secondary accounted for 31.8 percent of Auburn's tackles for loss, well above the 14-year average of 13.2 percent. It marked only the 2nd time in the past 14 seasons, the Auburn secondary accounted for more than 20 percent of the team's tackles for loss. The 31.8 percent looks bad for the 2012 defense but could end up being a blessing in 2013 with Johnson's 4-2-5 scheme.

  • Over the past 14 seasons Auburn has averaged a tackle for loss every 8.3 snaps. The 2012 defense averaged 1 every 12.8 snaps, the third lowest ratio over the past 14 seasons.

If we go 4-2-5, the strong safety should be included with linebackers. #justsayin.

Also... you reckon the former HC knew we were sucking on the D line when he recruited three 5 star recruits that were DE DE & LB?

WDE!
