Have fun sitting the bench for 2 years or some other poor soul will get the boot to make room for him.

We say that every year. Barring injury, he'll be another Updyke LB'er that'll be playing in the league and he won't care about sitting for a year or so. We gotta start getting these guys plain and simple.

Until we start developing LB's and putting them in the league this will always be the case.

No doubt about that.

We haven't even had an all-SEC linebacker, even second team, since Josh Bynes in 2010. It's getting way, way past old.

IF we can get any consistency on our defensive staff, that may happen.

I honestly think AU needs to weather Saban for a few more years. Then after he's gone, that may be our time to come out on top.

Well, we've started. We just need a lot more of them, every year, and we need more consistency on the sideline and the field. I'm hoping Steele and Williams will stay put for a while, stack the depth chart, and coach them up.

WDE!

Pretty sad, but it's the truth. With no pedigree as a defensive school remaining, or even semblance of hope that LBs that come through here can be developed, it turns into a less attractive school for LB recruits. Plain and simple. Love for school and tradition is fine, but most of these kids in these high categories that are regarded as "Top Recruits" are looking at a football future first and an academic one second. A few might go the other way, but still, there isn't much attraction to Auburn when we can't even maintain a stable defensive coordinator and a stable defense. Got offensive recruits though, so I guess we can count on scoring 50 every game huh?

Very accurate. But with Trey and Jeff continuing to develop, maybe they can turn that trend on its head. Time will tell.

Always love your insight Flex.

Even a couple of good LBs won't do it. It's the overall policy of the school and team, and making the defensive needs 2nd best every single time will be a large roadblock. But assuming both of them are able to become some "Dogs" at the position, then there might be a bit of hope. Also assuming no one transfers out for any reason.

Hard to break out of trends at times. The DL haul over the past few years really helps soften the blow a bit.

so flex, what is your status with potentially walking on? certainly you believe you can make the rotation. Any mutual interest with the new coaching staff?

There could be 52 five star linebackers committed to or on Alabama's squad and some kid would still go "herp derp wole tawd."

Not dissing Davis but some of these recruits are not very realistic/bright

This X 10000. The kid will work through their process, he will get top notch training/development/coaching, he'll get playing time on special teams as truefrosh while he learns their defense and he'll get results much like the rest of their 5* LBs have done historically.

That's why we're going to get you on the team and you're going to work your butt off to become an All-American, so Auburn can say that they coached a Walk-on LB to All-American status. Then LBs will be clamoring to sign with us... and you will get a shot at the the league.

I do, but at the same time, right now me even being able to walk on requires effort on the Athletic Department to get me eligible. While Lionheart and his connect are working extremely hard to get an ear, it's a shot in the dark.

Hope ben does well in every game but 1 each year. He handled this well and was in a position of incredible pressure.

You had to be a dimwit to expect a kid from freaking gordo Al with a legacy daddy to go ANYWHERE other than the turdstone. Anyone disappointed just Gimme a break and internalize your delusion.

I guess we're all just a bunch of Lloyd Christmases - holding out hope for the long shot.
