So I'm pretty new to AUFamily.. a week old tomorrow (woo!) Does this happen every year where we all just completely drool over our team? Or is this year truly more awesome Ethan usual?

Every year, the sunshine pumpers are pumping sunshine. If anyone dares utter a single word of uncertainty, the person is slaughtered, skewered and burned. Never, ever even whisper any doubt. Ever.

Truth:  There are 2 basic types of Auburn fans with very little deviation.

1.  Sunshine Pumper. He sees player A as fast, 4* guy who averaged 10ypc in HS with a ton of potential and player B as a prototypical LT who will be playing on Sundays who just needs a little experience. He sees future possibilities based on potential. So he consistently lands on the optimistic side of reality. He can't understand why #2 is always so negative.

2.  Debbie Downer.  He remembers player A's fumble last year.  He questions his ball security and mentions that he has a long way to go to be a proven SEC back. He sees player B as a guy who hasn't mauled an all SEC DE yet, so our QB better watch out on that side until he's proven himself. He sees future possibilities based on past experiences.  So he consistently lands on the pessimistic side of reality.  He can't understand why #1 is farting rainbows and riding unicorns when the team is still unproven.

Both of them are right. And both of them struggle to understand the other's point of view. And they enjoy to carry on for several pages on this forum about every topic under the sun. It can be entertaining at times and sometimes it can be exhausting. That's the beauty of an Internet forum. If you're tired of the dead horse beating of one thread, you can click out of it and move on to the next one, or even start your own.

Enjoy!!!

There are also several "camps", @djg0017.

There are the Gus haters who are negative about anyone or anything related to Gus (Jay Jacobs often gets roped in too). There is a much smaller camp of Gus lovers who are pro anything and anyone related to Gus.  The Gus haters think anyone who isn't in their camp is a Gus lover... but most aren't... most are Gus realists who get he's learning, see his potential, and hope for the best.

The same kind of thing exists for Sean White.  There are the Sean haters who think he is a Sun Belt QB at best. Then there are the Sean defenders who counter the haters with various examples and numbers to prove they are wrong, and can't understand why someone would attack one of our players.

Interestingly enough, this past off season, there have been camps that have developed re: Saban.  There's the "Saban is the best college football coach ever" camp and the "Saban is a product of his environment" camp... then there's Tigerbelle, who might actually hire a hitman, if it were legal and she could get past the moral issues.

Finally, there's A4E. Good luck understanding that one.

Incidentally, per Preacher's post, the haters, more often than not, are members of his Debbie Downer group, though some bounce around. You will notice that if a poster is a member of one hater group, they tend to be a member of most of the others as well.

Preacher also left out that there are middle of the roaders, of which he is one.

If any of this ruins your ability to enjoy the board, just remember that you can use the ignore button for any poster. The haters will call you weak, or other less friendly things, for doing it, but you can just ignore that too.

Encouraging ignore-ance?

Interesting..

This board is pretty representative of life, it seems.

This board does seem very optimistic in general for this season though. Count me on board with the believers!

And since Asa Martin just committed.. it just seems to get better and better :hellyeah:
