A federal appeals court orders North Carolina to redraw gerrymandered U.S. House districts in two weeks—or the court will.

And for those who foolishly hope this will be overturned on appeal, don't forget, what goes around comes around.  This case is so blatent it will be very difficult for many to apply a fair standard to Democrats.  If the country is going to be dominated by a single party, it might as well be the party that commands the majority.

Gerrymandering is the biggest obstacle to genuine democracy in the United States. So why is no one protesting?

There is an enormous paradox at the heart of American democracy. Congress is deeply and stubbornly unpopular. On average, between 10 and 15 percent of Americans approve of Congress – on a par with public support for traffic jams and cockroaches. And yet, in the 2016 election, only eight incumbents – eight out of a body of 435 representatives – were defeated at the polls.

If there is one silver bullet that could fix American democracy, it’s getting rid of gerrymandering – the now commonplace practice of drawing electoral districts in a distorted way for partisan gain. It’s also one of a dwindling number of issues that principled citizens – Democrat and Republican – should be able to agree on. Indeed, pollsconfirm that an overwhelming majority of Americans of all stripes oppose gerrymandering.....

They've lassoed off the black vote in this state.

I mean, look at that. District 7 includes both Birmingham and the western portions of the City of Montgomery. They've got the black belt nearly entirely encompassed, but then they meandered up to Tuscaloosa and up 59 to include the 'ham. District 6 needs to be a purple district with the Birmingham metro included.

The really hilarious thing, and I pointed this out in the Moore v. Jones thread, is that Jones won a statewide election while winning only one district. Let that sink in. Had this been a house race, the Rs would have won 6/7 seats while having fewer overall votes.
