AUFAN78 3,895
For the most advanced country in the world, U.S. elections have become amateur hour. And the result? Overwhelming mistrust in the way votes are received and counted. This is dangerous stuff. Here we have two straight elections where basically half the country believes the guy who won is illegitimate and/or cheated. One thing that lucid, objective people can agree on is that today’s voting system is built to sow doubt. This resulting chaos from mass mail-in ballots cannot be permitted to occur again. Yet, Democratic leaders believe otherwise: They want to expand mail-in voting for future elections, even in a post-COVID-vaccine world. But Election Day is called that – a “day” – for a reason. So, let's take it a step further, by making it a national holiday to allow more people to vote in-person. When going to the polls (which should open at 6 a.m. and stay open until 9 p.m. in every state), an identification should be required; we don't get to board a plane, drive a car, enter our kid's schools or buy liquor without one. Expand the number of voting locations, particularly in urban areas, to avoid long lines and, by extension, allegations of voting suppression. As for mail-in ballots, they should continue — but only for those over 65, those with health problems that may prevent them from physically going to the polls and military service members. Florida got it right: It allowed early and mail-in ballots to be tabulated starting three weeks before Election Day. As a result, the state was called in 2020 on election night, as it was in 2016. Imagine if all the other pivotal states had run as smoothly as that — we wouldn't have had the perception of something wrong occurring, or half the cries of a stolen election from Trump supporters that we're hearing now. America has existed for well over 230 years. And yet, despite all the advancements and all the increased engagement in the process, we're going backwards in terms of the certainty and confidence of the electorate that this simple process is being conducted properly and fairly. https://thehill.com/opinion/campaign/527501-and-the-2020-winner-is-dangerous-distrust

AUFriction 1,179
Is this from Breitbart? There’s a lot of faulty logic in the article. 1. There was evidence of election manipulation in 2016. It wasn’t voter fraud. It was other stuff like Russia putting out misinformation on a large scale posing as Americans. 2. While I’m not really a liberal, I have a LOT of friends that are, some of them conspiracy theory endorsing Sanders/AOC people. After Trump won in 2016, I don’t remember any of them claiming fraud. There were protests, mostly aimed at sending the message that they weren’t going to accept bigotry in the White House. But I don’t remember anyone saying the election was rigged immediately following it. 3. To date, all the claims of voter fraud this year have been anecdotal and not really supported by any hard evidence. That’s why all the lawsuits keep getting dropped. In this case though, the president is actually saying fraud, not manipulation. What happened 4 years ago was people cast legitimate votes after being manipulated. Trump is just saying the votes aren’t legitimate. This is a big difference both legally and conceptually. 4. As these lawsuits are drying up, the president has switched to trying to convince states to just throw out votes without any evidentiary justification. If states do that, we will cease to be a representative democratic republic. It will set a precedent that state leaders can blindly claim fraud and just cast electors for whomever they want. As someone who clearly leans right, you HAVE to understand that Democrat led states will do the same thing in the future if Republican led states do what Trump wants them to now. So, what happened 4 years ago and what is going on now are completely different. What is happening now is more unacceptable and more scary. This situation extends beyond parties. Baseless claims of voter fraud could be used to completely undermine our votes by both parties.

homersapien 11,373
Trump’s Farewell Address, in his own words Opinion by Dana Milbank Columnist November 27, 2020 Two-hundred twenty-four years ago, the first president retired with a passionate warning against political parties becoming “potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people.” Now, as a defeated president mobilizes his party in an open (if bumbling) attempt to overturn a free and fair election, and as Republican congressional leaders shamefully legitimize his behavior, George Washington’s Farewell Address takes on renewed importance. “The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge … is itself a frightful despotism,” Washington warned. And, “sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of public liberty.” President Trump, who has no purpose other than his own elevation, will never pen such a speech. But in the weeks that have passed since the election, he has already given us his farewell address of sorts. Here it is, assembled entirely from his own words and tweets: This election was a fraud. A total fraud. It was a fraudulent election. This was a massive fraud. This fraud has taken place. You have a fraudulent system. Fraudulent voting and fraudulent votes. There’s tremendous fraud here. There’s fraud all over the place. Massive fraud has been found. We’re like a Third World country. We will find tens of thousands of fraudulent and illegal votes. You’re gonna find fraud of hundreds of thousands of votes per state. They used covid in order to defraud the people of this country. Biden can only enter the White House as president if he can prove that his ridiculous “80,000,000 votes” were not fraudulently or illegally obtained. I just don’t see Americans rolling over for this election fraud. Our big lawsuit, which spells out in great detail all of the ballot fraud and more, will soon be filled (sic). RIGGED ELECTION! This Election was RIGGED. This, it was a rigged election. Very sad to say it, this election was rigged. This was a 100% RIGGED ELECTION They know it was a rigged election. At the highest level it was a rigged election. This election was a rigged election. This was an election that we won easily. We won it by a lot. I won Pennsylvania by a lot. In Georgia, I won by a lot. I won that by hundreds of thousands of votes. There’s no way Trump didn’t win Pennsylvania because the energy industry was all for him. No, we won by a lot. We were robbed. We got many votes more than Ronald Reagan. This election was lost by the Democrats. They cheated. They flooded everybody with ballots. They’re horrible people, and they’re people that don’t love our country. Horrible things went on. Many other things were happening that were horrible. Just horrible. This is horrible what’s taking place. All of the horrible things that happened to poll watchers. If you were a Republican poll watcher you were treated like a dog. Dead people were requesting ballots. Not only were they coming in and putting in a ballot, but dead people were requesting ballots, and they were dead for years. Dead people voting all over the place. It’s a corrupt system. The most corrupt election in American political history. Corrupt election! This is corrupt. We’ll not allow the corruption to steal such an important election. Working hard to clean up the stench of the 2020 Election Hoax! The 2020 Election was a total scam. We have judges that are afraid to make a decision. Nevada is turning out to be a cesspool. Detroit and Philadelphia — known as two of the most corrupt political places anywhere. Why isn’t the @GaSecofState Brad Raffensperger, a so-called Republican, allowing us to look at signatures on envelopes? Those machines are fixed, they’re rigged. People say the votes are counted in foreign countries and much worse than that. VOTES SWITCHED FROM PRESIDENT TRUMP TO BIDEN. Fake ballots. Fake votes. Fake recounts. Fake results. Fake pollsters. Fake polls. FAKE NEWS. I concede NOTHING! It’s going to be a very hard thing to concede because we know there was massive fraud. Should President Trump concede to Biden? Poll Results: No: 190,593 (98.9%). This election has to be turned around. They have to turn over the results. Have a great life General Flynn! Rudy, you were the greatest mayor. Thanksgiving is a special day for turkeys. Don’t talk to me that way. I’m the president of the United States. I concede NOTHING!!!!! https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/11/27/trumps-farewell-address-his-own-words/

Agree with this. But let's be crystal clear here: Democrats in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania begged the Republican led state legislature in those states to do exactly what the author is suggesting. It was Republicans who said no and created this issue. Lay the blame at the feet of those who are at fault.
