Baseball vs Middle Tennessee

Recommended Posts

Surprised this hasn't been started already.

Baseball went down 10-8 on Friday night. Awful showing from the Armstrong pitchers as they gave up 7 runs in 1 inning. Skipper had a nice outing in relief going 5.2 innings and giving up 3 runs, only 2 earned. We were down 10-5 in the 9th and Moore hit a 3-run homer to make the game closer just couldn't overcome the bad start to the game.

Game 2 underway now.

Sheehan is on the mound and has went 3 scoreless innings only giving up 1 hit. Edit: Apparently Gonzalez pitched the 1st inning. Sheehan has pitched the last 2. Not sure why Gonzalez only pitched 1 inning.

Auburn scores 7 runs in the 1st with all singles, walks, and sac flies.

Wyandt singles in the 3rd. Then with 2 outs, Howell and Carlson singles, and Ware doubles to bring in 3 runs.

Edit: Hill strikes out for the 2nd time today to end the inning.

Auburn leads 10-0 T4th and MT has a new pitcher with 2 outs and men on 2nd and 3rd.

First pitch of the 4th inning and it's doubled off the monster. MT has had the leadoff runner on base every inning. Flyout to Howell and he's able to hold the runner at 2nd. Good 1st out.

Sheehan falls behind 3-0 before coming back 3-2. A deep fly to center field and Howell jumps but can't grab it and it's a 2-run homer.

10-2 Auburn T4th 1 out.

Ground out to Foster for out 2. Rambusch with a nice diving stop and throws from his knees for a groundout.

Moore, Foster, Wyandt up for Auburn

Moore with a ground out to SS. Foster with a pop up to 2B in the infield. 2 very quick outs.

Wyandt doesn't do better as he pops up to 2B on 1 pitch. That was a 5 pitch 1-2-3 inning for MT.

10-2 Auburn T5th

3rd straight pop up to 2B as the leadoff batter pops up on 1 pitch. 2 pitches, 2 outs as he flies out to Howell.

A 2 pitch single and MT has had runners on base every inning. 4 pitch walk to get Sheehan in some trouble with 2 outs.

Nevermind, Drabick is coming in for Sheehan.

Flyout to Howell to end the inning. Nice job by Drabick to get out with no damage.

Rambusch, Howell, Dyal up to bat for Auburn.

Would have been a huge time gap between pitches for Gonzalez? Huge lead and turn it into a bullpen day?

cant believe mtsu left that poor kid in as long as they did the 1st inning.  Btw … that poor kid had a 189.00 era today!

Rambusch flies out to RF.

Howell with a 3-0 count and had the greenlight as he rips a double right before the monster. 3 hits for Howell today!

Dyal flies out to shallow LF. Carlson strikes out on a 3-2 count.

Maybe. Didn't think of that since I've seen Butch let pitchers go back in after big innings like that before. Didn't watch the first inning, though, so I hav eno idea how long it was.

Carlson in to pitch for Drabick.

Carlson gets a swinging strikeout for out 1. Then gives up a single. Another inning, another base runner for Middle TN. Sigh, 2-run homer and MT has cut the lead again.

10-4 Auburn

3 hits in a row as Carlson gives up another single. Mound visit and Wade is warming up in the bullpen.

Nice job fighting a 3-2 count and getting the batter to strikeout looking. Carlson's day is done and Wade is coming in.

Wade's first pitch is low and gets away from Wyandt but not enough for the runner to advance. Another ball and then a pitch not even close to the plate. Runner moves up.

And Wade immediately calls for the staff and trainers.

Edit: Wade is coming out of the game with what is probably an injury. Allsup is going to come in and have time to get warmed up.

Bad spot for Allsup as he comes in on a 3-0 count. He works it to 3-2 but then gives up an RBI double just past Rambusch on the line. Another 3-2 count and Allsup loses him. Not feeling as confident about this W as I thought with it being 10-5, runners on 1st and 2nd.

Edit: Announcers just said that Gonzalez had a finger issue and that's why he didn't come back in.

Allsup falls behind 3-0 but comes back to strike him out on the next 3 pitches.

Ware, Moore, Hill coming up to bat. Need some more insurance runs.

Ware hits it hard by right to the 3B for a line out. Hill falls behind 1-2 before drawing a walk.

Moore with a pitch fly out to RF. Foster flies out on 2 pitches. Another quick inning and Auburn can't get any runs on this new pitcher. Very similar to how the Friday game was except in reverse order.

10-5 Auburn T7th

Another inning another leadoff runner as a hard hit ball to Rambusch and he's only able to knock it down.

A second single and runners on 1st and 2nd no outs. Already in trouble after 3 pitches in the inning. A strikeout before a 3rd single and another run for MT.

That's the last batter I can watch today as I have plans to get ready for. Hopefully Auburn can keep the lead but our bullpen is struggling.

10-6 Auburn

Just checked in before I leave the house. Auburn has 1 hit in the past 5 innings. MT just continues to hit the ball and close the gap. Auburn leads 10-7 going to the B9th.

Thank goodness we have Burkhalter closing out games for us. Comes in and pitches 1.2 innings and doesn't give up a hit or a run. Auburn survives the comeback 10-7.

Game 2 and the rubber match starting in a bit but I won't be here for that one. If no one updates the game I'll try to give a recap when I get home. War Eagle, everyone.

3-3 going into extra innings.

Auburn did all of their damage in the 2nd. And have struggled since. Rambusch has 3 hits but Dyal once again has a 3 strikeout game. He was hitting very well before this series but it seems like any time him and DiChiara are in the lineup together he strikes out a lot.

MT did all of their damage in the 4th to tie the game. Bright had an okay outing going 6 innings giving up 3 runs and threw a career high in pitches. Burkhalter pitched the 7th and retired the side in order.

Swilling is in for the 8th and he gives up a lead off double. Ground out to 3rd for out 1 and then he loses the next batter and walks him on a 3-2 count. Runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out. Swilling has had issues this year with control and walks.

Another single loads the bases. And Swilling walks in a run. He has to fix these control issues. Swilling's day is done and probably should have been done before he walked in a run. Bosse is coming in.

4-3 MT bases loaded 1 out.

DAMN! Bosse comes in like a freaking BOSS! 1 pitch DOUBLE PLAY!!!

Stopped the bleeding immediately but Auburn has work to do if we're gonna pull this out. Ware, Moore, Farquhar coming up.

4-3 MT B8th
