Ironically people said the same thing about Gus 😬 Gus technically was once thought of as the best offensive minds in CfB at a moment in history. The game changed. He didn't is what it is. I think we all (fans and not just AU fans) put too much stock into anomalies. Show me an offensive minded coach in history that never had a game where his offense didn't struggle to move the ball or put up points, or both. Show me a Defensive minded coach that has never been ran through like S#$% through a tin horn. Anybody that bases their opinion of a coach's ability based on one poor, or even one great experience, is probably way off based.

The point is all younger hc’s have an offensive or defensive system and pedigree. Saban did once. At some point all must delegate and evolve into ceo types. Otherwise - Gus and jimbo outcomes. Getting a hc for a system or nuanced brilliance always has a shelf life. And it’s less than 10 years.

I think Kiffin will make the most immediate impact with his portal acumen. Some of the other coaches may be better high school recruiters, which may take a 2-3 years to get us back to the depth we need, but the end result will be the same. We are looking at a few years before we are seriously competitive again. The good news is, we have positions open across the board. if you want to play right away, Auburn is the way. Lane can handle the portal and can be incredibly effective in recruiting high school.
