Quick Quotes: Freeze recaps Vanderbilt win, looks to Arkansas road finale

The Tigers haven't lost in Fayetteville since 2015

NATHAN KING

Following its first SEC road win since October 2021, Auburn will look to make it three straight wins against the Hogs.

Auburn (5-4, 2-4 SEC) travels to Arkansas this weekend in its final road trip of the season. The Razorbacks (3-6, 1-5 SEC) notched their first SEC victory of the year by beating Florida 36-33 in overtime for their first-ever win in The Swamp, snapping a six-game losing streak this season in the process.

Follow along here for live updates from Freeze's weekly press conference, as he recaps Auburn's second straight SEC victory ahead of the Tigers' trip to Fayetteville, where they haven't lost since 2015.

* Freeze wishes good look to Auburn men’s and women’s basketball getting their seasons started this week. Also to Brent Crouch and Auburn volleyball.

* Freeze reiterates that "if we had made certain plays, the came would be firmly in control. I'm not sure we can have those not go our way in Arkansas."

* Freeze says he's noticed Arkansas "has gone back to playing how they did on offense last year."

* On the crowd at Vanderbilt: "It felt like we were at a neutral-site game, at worst."

* Auburn's staff tallied seven drops against Vanderbilt.

* Freeze says tight end Micah Riley's cutting penalty was bizarre, it's not something he's seen from that position group at any point in practice this season.

* How much is Freeze calling plays at this point in the season? "It kind of depends on how it's going. I'm very involved with what's on the call sheet."

* Freeze says Payton Thorne's game plan "isn't about volume (of throws), it's about executing."

* Starting center Avery Jones' status is still unclear. Regardless of whether Jones is able to return, Freeze still expects Connor Lew to play against Arkansas.

* Freeze says most times he's been to Fayetteville, the weather has been "atrocious." He's glad that it seems to be much better this weekend.

* Freeze was "disappointed, truthfully, in our protection." Says it's on the O-line, running backs, tight ends and Thorne to shift protections.

* Freeze on Robby Ashford's decreased role: "I believe Payton's skill set is the most prepared for what we're doing. It's not a negative toward anyone else."

* Freeze says Holden Geriner had a "heck of a week" at practice last week.

* Freeze thinks Arkansas' offense is completely different without Dan Enos running the show. He said it's much more akin to what the Hogs did last year.

* Freeze's message to Thorne after his pick-six: "Just play the next play."

* Freeze on Auburn DC Ron Roberts: "You hire someone to do a job, and you get out of the way."

* Jalen McLeod is "playing too many snaps" but he remains Auburn's "biggest threat" as a pass-rusher. It also reveals that Auburn needs more players like him on the D-line, Freeze said.

If he is bringing up HG in the presser, he might be making a play to try and keep him. Will be interesting to see if he gets a package too moving forward, other then a double pass set.

Depending on how PT finishes the year, he might be looking at trying to keep at least one of the top three QBs on roster  for next year. But who knows!

agree, i doubt ashford remains at AU in a qb role.  if he could remain disciplined (on the field, not off), he would make a heck of a safety.  however, that ship may have already sailed.  just win AU!!

He added that Geriner "can really spin it" and that he's gonna "be something special."

He just didn't indicate which school he would be at whilst being special.

Well played.

Or trying to help him in the transfer portal. If he's not playing chess, then HG is the greatest back up QB to ever play the game. Seriously, if they get up big against NMSU then let him play and throw.

IMO, CFH is trying to help the guy out and give good publicity. I was pumped about HG coming to Auburn. It's a bummer he never really saw the field or got a real chance.

Until proven otherwise, I am going to assume he is playing checkers.
