Ironically, I think NPR itself does a pretty good, balanced, job of reporting on this story, highlighting Uri's critiques, pointing out some who agree with him, pointing out some who disagree with him, giving NPR management's public response.

I think you misinterpreted his comment.

He was fired for backing his brother. Call it unethical whatever, but the temptation is real. Family is real.

I believe he is saying NewsNation demanded open-mindedness over partisan groupthink or he wouldn't have been hired.
