Johnnie Harris and Auburn’s women’s basketball continue to find success in the transfer portal.

Exactly one week after scooping up former Arkansas guard Taliah Scott, Auburn landed its second transfer of the offseason as former Texas forward DeYona Gaston announced her commitment to the Tigers Sunday afternoon in a post on Instagram.

Gaston’s commitment to Auburn comes on the heels of a senior campaign at Texas, where she appeared in 25 games, started four and averaged 8.4 points and. 4.2 rebounds per game.

Often coming the bench to contribute, Gaston was named the Big 12′s Sixth Player of the Year this past season as she helped the Longhorns to an impressive 33-5 record, which featured earning a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Texas went on to be upset by NC State in the Elite Eight — a game that Gaston started and contributed eight points, six rebounds and a block in 28 minutes of play.

Given the fact that Harris was still an assistant at Texas when Gaston joined the Longhorns as a freshman in 2020, it’s likely the two were familiar with each other and it wasn’t the first time Harris spent time recruiting Gaston.

A native of Pearland, Texas, espnW rated Gaston the No. 90 over player in the class of 2020 and the 20th-ranked player at the forward position.

Johnny is building credibility as a head coach and it's starting to pay off in the talent getting on board. Love it.
