Coach Dye was right about looking forward to reading the paper that wonderful  Sunday morning. Went to the game then was up before sunrise waiting on the B’ham news.

I didn't even have a drink at or after that game. Yet, the whole carload was so delirious with joy that we took two wrong turns on the way back to Auburn and didn't realize it until we passed Vulcan for the second time.

My great Aunt was buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Bham that day. She had helped raise my father so she was kind of like a Grandmother to me. I remember going into the funeral home soon after the game was over and watching a car go by and hearing screams of War Eagle. The funeral was not to begin before the game was over per her wishes. Bittersweet day.
