Flyovers at games

Is it just me or are the flyovers really cool? I sit in the upper deck so after the national anthem I now immediately look off to the south. It is so cool to see those planes arcing in toward JH!! And Saturday it seemed like they were really low and really loud!!!

I'm so thankful and so proud that Auburn has such a great connection with the military and the brave soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and CG!!! Yet another reason it's great to be an AUBURN TIGER!!!

The lead plane was an AU EE class of 90. He was my roomate while at AU. Somebody else said that one of the pilots was related to Cliff Hare. Not sure. But it is cool to have the planes and for them to be flown by AU graduates.

Keep in mind that these guys have already served 2 tours in Iraq flying many sorties. So not only are they pilots, but war veterans also.

All four were recognized at halftime, and one of them was identified as the grandson of Cliff Hare. Also recognized were past presidents. Former President Philpott was there. Geez, he must be over 90 now. Anyways, he was the guy who shook my hand and gave me my diploma on the stage of BEMC back in Dec 1979. It was a great Homecoming experience. :au: WDE

i was in the student section and when the band finished the national anthem we sat and waited and she asked "are they doing a flyover or something" I specifically said "No, I doubt they'd do one for the tulane game..." and almost immediately after i finished saying that we heard the roar of the engines to our left. Guess i was wrong, but I'd be happy if we had a flyover for every game. My favorites are in 2004 when they had the c130 (I think... maybe c5) and the two jets escorting it, and the helicopters this year.

CCTAU, what was your roommate's name? From my alias you can see I am also a EE from the class of '90! There's a good chance I knew him too.

Dean Foy was there and noted that he is in his nineties.

Unfortunately my seats are high enough that the upper deck blocks my view of the flyovers, but I enjoy the sound and knowing they are going over just the same. Where else in world would a person get to experience all the traditions and celebrations we have here in our little University in eastern Alabama?

WAR EAGLE!!!

I am so glad to see the military doing flyovers. Following Vietnam, Seneator Proxmire of Wisconsin had stopped them completely as a waste of money. A friend of mine was court martialed for leading a four ship pass down the runway at Holoman AFB. His crime-- letting the recently widowed of a squadron mate know ahead of time.

Carter really sucked then even more than now.

KC-135 Tanker with F-16 escorts from the AANG base in Birmingham. The guy flying the refuling boom had that thing waving back and forth like mad. :)

The helicopters took a while to develop. :)

Give me the loud as sin F-16's every time. Wish they would have flown them over for the Florida game because afterburners look like giant roman candles at night.

BTW, I'd like to thank whomever it is that pointed out that one of Doolittle's raiders was an AU grad. I didn't know that but I appreciate it being pointed out.

Also, FWIW in the photographic services archives there's a cool picture of Patton riding in a Jeep with "WAR EAGLE" painted on the front under the windshield.

My point in bringing this up was to see if anyone else thinks it's cool and I'm glad that we do. However, I'm also very proud that Auburn as an institution and a student body doesn't disrespect the military like Cal, Harvard, and a lot of other schools do. WTF are those people thinking? These guys are laying their lives on the line for us!!! GOD BLESS THEM!!!! WDE!!!!! :au:

They are so great to see. I get chills and a little teary watching them. Ditto on watching the southern end zone after the AU Marching Band plays the National Anthem. There were two gentleman at band practice last Saturday morning timing the band during their pregame practice. They were getting times for another fly over. Keep looking up! Here's a hats off to our wonderful military men and women!!!!!

Proud Mom of two (2) AU Marching Band members!! :au:

I have this "thing" for military aircraft. I just love em. Am scare to death of flying, but any military aircraft just gives me chills and brings a tear of joy to my eyes. I heard from a friend that is close to the airport that we WILL be having fly-overs for both Ark. State and Georgia. It is gonna be awesome.

AND....a very, very, big THANK YOU to all our military! Each and every soldier is in my thoughts and prayers every day!

WDE!

FYI, the ones who flew over at the Buffalo game were not planned. They were AU grads returning from IRAQ, they knew the game was going on and they decided to side track before going back to their home base. They hadn't even gotten home after their tour of duty and they do this, cool! My other half talked to one of the pilots from this weeks fly over during the AU band practice and the pilot said that to him. That is just too cool. All the ones in that group (Buffalo) flyover were AU grads.

I think they are so cool!
