Docs missed cancer 50 times

A TRAGIC dad died of cancer after doctors failed to spot the disease during FIFTY hospital visits.

Father-of-three Dunil Almeida’s bowel cancer went undetected for 18 months even though he suffered agonising stomach pains and lost 4st.

It was only diagnosed when he visited family in Sri Lanka last month. The airport worker, 42, returned to London for specialist treatment, but died on February 8.

Last night The Patients Association’s Katherine Murphy said: “This is an NHS disaster. What the bloody hell was going on?”

Dunil’s widow Chiandra, 32 — an information technology lecturer from Uxbridge, Middx — said: “I’m devastated. I feel bitter and angry.

“He was even told he was probably imagining the pain.”

Dunil first went to A&E at West London’s Hillingdon Hospital in May 2005. He kept returning and was seen by a variety of doctors.

He was finally given an appointment for an abdominal scan — but the date was only confirmed AFTER he died.

Hillingdon Hospital’s Susan LaBrooy said: “A formal investigation is under way.”
