Football Fanatic Stabs Another After Game

Posted: Jan 09, 2012 6:25 AM CST Updated: Jan 09, 2012 6:25 AM CST CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Police said a football fanatic in Chattanooga took things too far when he stabbed a fan of another team.

Officers were called out to Fanatics Sports Bar on Saturday where fans had watched the New Orleans Saints play the Detroit Lions on TV.

Police said 56-year-old Thomas Gulrtin told them he was celebrating the win of the New Orleans Saints and put his arm around 28-year-old Darius Edward Arabghani in celebratory fun. Chattanooga Police Sgt. Jerri Weary said Arabghani was offended by Gulrtin's gloating and stabbed him in the arm with a pocket knife.

Weary said in a statement on Sunday that Arabghani was charged with assault.

Jail records do not indicate whether Arabghani has an attorney.

This year isn't starting off too well in Chattanooga as far as crime is concerned.

And to think, I moved from Memphis to Chattanooga about a month ago with the idea that it'd be a vastly safer city to live in.

It is. In Memphis, the stabber would have stolen the guy's car with him likely in it, drove it across the river, taken the rims off, and set the car on fire.
