Cedrick McAfee leaving Auburn basketball program

Redshirt freshman guard Cedrick McAfee is leaving the Auburn basketball program and will look to transfer elsewhere, a source close to McAfee told the Auburn Bureau of the Press-Register, Birmingham News and Huntsville Times.

McAfee, a 6-3 guard from Memphis, took a medical redshirt in 2011-2012 after suffering a foot injury. He played in only three games.

The details on why McAfee is leaving were not immediately available. Auburn did not immediately comment.

Two other members of last year's signing class -- Willy Kouassi and Bernard Morena -- also announced their intentions to transfer last month.

Auburn is currently slated to return six scholarship players from last year's squad unless there is more attrition as the spring semester ends this week. Auburn coach Tony Barbee has signed five players and added Virginia transfer KT Harrell for the 2012-2013 season.

Phillip Marshall just posted McAfee and Langford were DISMISSED from the team and Johnson is suspended indefinitely. Said the instances aren't related. Yeesh.

"Cedrick McAfee and Josh Langford have been dismissed from the Auburn men's basketball team for a violation of team rules," Barbee said." Noel Johnson has been suspended indefinitely. We will have no further comment at this time."

Unfortunately, this is what happens to struggling basketball programs until they land on their feet

AU basketball is a trainwreck. This will be Barbee's 3rd season and I had hoped to see some improvement but right now, I don't know....

The state of AU athlteics is on a cliff right now. Baseball is terrible, basketball doesn't look too good and football is riding on the hopes that a sophomore QB can do something spectacular this season.

Jay Jacobs is on the ropes....

It's impossible to take a program up if every new recruit leaves after a year or two. Losing last year's ENTIRE CLASS is unheard of. That's a year on the road to the top lost, no other way to look at it. NOT good news!

I also believe these players leaving the past couple years will negatively affect the teams APR, which if the team ever becomes good enough for the NCAA tourney it might not be eligible due to the low APR.
