Kerry daughters booed at MTV Awards

Pair pushes dad for president, tries to 'shush' crowd into silence

A widespread assumption that young Americans watching MTV may be more prone to vote for John Kerry for president over George W. Bush could be highly off target, as Kerry's daughters received prolonged booing at the network's Music Video Awards in Miami.

"From the moment Alexandra and Vanessa started speaking, the boos outweighed anything close to cheers," according to the Drudge Report.

Another website, juiceenews.com stated: "At one point one of the daughters even held her finger to her mouth in an effort to 'shush' the rowdy crowd. The boos only grew louder when the daughters suggested that the best choice for a president in this year's election should be their father."

The jeering is reminiscent of another rude welcome for a politician three years ago on MTV's sister network, VH-1.

Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., received a large amount of booing during a charity event raising money for the families of victims of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

"VH-1 cameras captured firemen and police heroes wildly booing Clinton, who attempted to raise her voice above the shouting crowds," reported Drudge. "'Get off the stage! We don't want you here!' yelled one New York City police officer just feet from the senator."

As WorldNetDaily reported last week, shock-rock legend Alice Cooper called rock stars campaigning for Democrat John Kerry treasonous morons.

"I call it treason against rock 'n' roll because rock is the antithesis of politics. Rock should never be in bed with politics," Cooper told the Canadian Press.

"If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you're a bigger moron than they are. Why are we rock stars? Because we're morons. We sleep all day, we play music at night and very rarely do we sit around reading the Washington Journal."

"Besides," he continued, "when I read the list of people who are supporting Kerry, if I wasn't already a Bush supporter, I would have immediately switched. Linda Ronstadt? Don Henley? Geez, that's a good reason right there to vote for Bush."

Earlier this summer, Linda Ronstadt was escorted off the property of a Las Vegas casino after publicly supporting Bush-bashing film director Michael Moore, and singer Don Henley was subsequently booed on stage in Orange County, Calif., for expressing support for Linda Ronstadt during one of his own concerts.

MTV sucks.

I watched the MTV Movie awards this year. Lord of the Rings won an award for best Action sequence or something like that. The host began to say, "No one is here to accept this award so lets watch this important message." However, one of the actors in the LOTR trilogy didn't get the memo that he couldn't accept the award. SO, he took the "important message" time to thank all the people he worked with. Well, that imporant message began to roll as soon as he quit talking. It was nothing more than an ad for Michael Moore's pack of lies know as Farenheit 911. I felt terrible for the little hobbitt that got in the way of the powerful democratic machine. Why does rock n roll have to play politics? He seemed embarassed, and I was embarassed for him. I didnt tune in to hear that crap, and OBVIOUSLY they never even checked to see if the time slot for the LOTR actor's acceptance speech was going to be filled or not. They were so eager to push their political agenda.

NOW the parade the Kerry girls? Thank God I was watching baseball last night and I missed it. What did they have to do with the VMA's?

They didn't "parade" the Kerry girls. I have to give credit to MTV last night. "Vote for something" was a recurring theme last night and numerous performers reiterated this point to the crowd and the TV audience. It was a call for young people to get involved. But aside from a mild anti-Bush sticker on one of the Beastie Boys, it wasn't partisan. And they had the Bush girls via satellite right after the Kerry girls basically saying the same thing: "Of course we would ask that you vote for our father, but regardless of who you vote for, the important thing is to vote for something."

I have to admit I was shocked at the reception the Kerry daughters got, but was even more shocked at the lack of Anti-Bush drivel from the celebrities on hand. I can't help but wonder if the Kerry daughters' response was indicitive of how Florida will vote this September?

I am also glad that a rock star finally spoke up and said what I am sure the majority of America is thinking, but who knew it would be Alice Cooper?

I can't stand award shows! But, I did catch bits and pieces of the show last night. I am a big Linkin Park fan and wanted to see them win something. All in all, I probably saw a total of 20-30 of the show.

I was impressed with what I saw. I heard no leanings toward either side. They just encouraged people to vote. Even John Mellancamp (sp?), who is known to be anti-Bush, simply encouraged all to get out and vote regardless of political persuasion.

I actually liked the t-shirts that said "Vote or Die." :D

The crowd there was probably pretty pro-Cuba, anti-Castro (and therefore anti-communist). I can see where they wouldn't be too happy with the daughters of a Mass liberal...

I was kind of watching it. My wife is still considered part of the young crowd since she is only 24 so she was watching it. As was doing some things and stopping to watch when it something interested me. I don't listen to alot of music on the radio, so I don't no much about the music on the awards shows these days. When I heard the boos for the Kerry girls, I could not believe my ears. I then expected even more for the Bush girls, but I was again surprised. Since I have Tivo, I had to rewind just to make sure I heard the boos correctly and I did. I then made the comment out loud to my wife that I may have been underestimating the younger vote in how much they educate themselves. It was at that time that my wife reminded me she was not as old as me and she was part of that younger vote. She also reminded me that even though she grew up in a democratic family, she would be able to see through Kerry's bs without my help. BTW, all of her democratic family, even her stubborn grandmother, plan on voting for a republican for the first time since they can remember.

However, I do think we can all agree to feel sorry for the Kerry girls because it was their dad being booed and not them. They can't help what their dad does and the reputation he seems to be building for himself. I really kind of felt sorry for them when the looked back at somebody backstage for some help when the boos started. Like others said, they were just part of the campaign to encourage voter turnout for the younger generation, I as surprised as I was to hear the boos, and slightly amused at the time, I know think it was just a little in poor taste. Just a little, not alot.
