Jordan Jenkins

I don't know how many times someone is going to have to say this before it gets through your heads: we are only going to take 1 DE this year, 2 at the absolute most! Therefore, it only takes one who likes us at the end and I guarantee you that one of those guys will still be there. And this isn't just about the Cam stuff either. Imagine trying to sell a guy on a depth chart that already includes Eguae, Lemonier, Bonomolo, Sanders, Ford, Owens, Delaine, Harrell, and Sigler. Thats nine guys who haven't even started their junior year yet. That's pretty crowded for 2 positions.

DJ what are your thoughts on why we seem to have missed on Jenkins? I think with most NFL teams running a 3-4 colleges that run that seem more attractive to recruits.

Well, I'd be lying if I said that losing Coach Rocker didn't have ANY effect on our situation with Jenkins. They had a REALLY good relationship, and I believe that Jenkins probably would've committed to AU by now if CTR was still here. But, nevertheless, Coach Pelton did do a good job of building a relationship with Jenkins in the short time that he had, but it wasn't enough apparently to overcome the relationship that Jenkins has with other staffs. I really think that these past few visits/camps that he took, specifically to UGa, bama, and UF hurt us. At UGa and bama, they let him compete at the OLB position, and he REALLY bought into the idea of playing that position in college. The bama coaches are especially good at "selling" kids on the idea of playing a new position and becoming "the next Rolando McClain" or "the next DeMeco Ryans".  And while I'm on the subject... how many times have you heard a recruit say, "Coach Saban said that I'd be the perfect fit to play the 'Jack Linebacker' position!" What the heck is a "jack LB" anyway? Can anybody REALLY tell me?  :dunno: Anyway, back to Jenkins... I just think that he's been sold on the idea of playing in the 3-4, and that's it. It wouldn't surprise me if he ended up at UF, b/c of their ENG program and he's really seemed to hit it off with several of their current players like Ronald Powell. FWIW, UF made a REALLY big move with Stefon Diggs at their FNL event also, and I believe that they are right there neck-and-neck now with us and Miami. Coach Muschamp and Co. are EXCELLENT recruiters and tireless workers, much like our own staff.

we will get a top notch blue-chip DE and a "project" who will end up a stud.  there are to many quality guys we are looking at and who have interest in us.  but of course i would prefer one of them to commit immediately ... is that asking to much?

In the 3-4, we're subtracting a lineman and adding a new linebacker called the Jack linebacker. The Jack is a hybrid of defensive end and linebacker. It gives big linebackers or small defensive ends a position. The Jack is pass rush specialist but like a linebacker is expected to defend against the pass in zone and man situations as well.

Thats what google says ... :dunno: :dunno:

I played in a 3-4 defense in college and I can tell you right now that Jack linebacker is an extremely appealing position to play. I can understand why kids want to play that position. That being said, the #3 pick in this past draft was a 4-3 d end who projected as a "jack" linebacker in the NFL by most scouts. This shows you don't have to play in a 3-4 to become a premiere pass rusher, so stop sipping the Saban kool-aid! WDE, and JJ come to the plains you're my favorite recruit this year man!

Anyone have a update 247 has a article up

Jenkins has NOT eliminated Auburn. He aaid Florida and Bama are his leaders, but Auburn, Georgia and (I think) Tennessee round out his top five.

  • 1 month later...

Not sure if this is old news but set to OV on 10/15 & UOV on 9/10.

Turds, UGA & UF are the other OVs.

We really do need to get an elite DE in this class, IMO. Him and Channing Ward are the two imo. I hope we're not wasting time on Jenkins if he's already got his mind made up for bammer or UF. I know his dad's mind is made up on UF, but Jenkins is supposedly leaning to bammer right now. Really hope we can swing him.

It's gonna be hard for us to get an elite DE this class. We're so stacked at that position I just don't see elite ends liking that much competition. I'd rather us get a couple more safeties and an extra defensive tackle.

I can't see that we are in any different situation than florida and alabama. they are loaded with talent and so are we. every elite team is loaded with talent thats just the way it is. you want to play for the best teams in the nation you better be one of the best players in the nation.

Would love to know what the article on 247 says about Chiz's visit. And no, I don't want to pay for a subscription. :)

Per 24/7 Sports.com

“It was great to see him here,” Jenkins said. “I had a head coach from a top SEC school come out and see me and also open up chances for my teammates to be discovered. It really meant a lot having him here.”

Jenkins said that AU, among others (meaning UGa and UT I'm assuming, since they're the other two teams in his "top 5"), still "have a shot"... and he says that the Tigers are "not that far back"... which I think is a pretty good sign considering that a month or so ago, it was UA, UF, or bust! AU has made up significant ground, and I think the coaches taking the angle of recruiting Jenkins' teammates (who are VERY good prospects as well), like 2013 recruit Jay Ellison, who AU has already offered, and 2014 prospects Tae Crowder and TaQuon Marshall, is certainly starting to pay off. I expect AU to draw even closer to UA and UF after this weekend, as Jenkins is scheduled to attend the game vs Miss St.

B. Matthews indicated something today about AU offering a 2014 RB - I assume that was the Marshall kid you mentioned above? Also (off topic), did we make DGB's cut?
