I suspect some refs may get in trouble if they are investigating the Bama game

Because I've never seen a more poorly called game against the home team.  It was as if they wanted to see Auburn get blown out for some reason and so we now know why.  I find it amazing that Ward was working in conjuction with them but I wonder which Bammer was funding this job?

Just as a refresher of that game for those that are skeptical but Auburn had 3 technicals for holding onto the rim and only one of those could even come close to be a decent call.  That possibly decent call was the one where Gabriel would have fallen hard had he not held on but he raised his knees so I could see why it was called.

Another calle that set me off was when the bammer ball handler lowered his shoulder and ran in front and into a Chub who was running back to be on defense which meant the contact was initiated by the ball handler and there was no way that should have been called on Chubb.  There were also some very poor calls against Chubb that were made just to get him into foul trouble and it was as if the bammer players knew this!

I'm not one to believe conspiracy theories, but those calls were absolutely horrendous!  And they definitely changed the momentum of that game.  The crowd was going nuts and the place was ready to explode on both breakaway dunks until those whistles blew.  Even though Varez played awful in that game, I would have believed that the refs were throwing that game before I would have believed that he was.

I didnt get to see the game but from what i read in regards to the Ward point shaving accusation, Ward turned the ball over 5 straight times at a critical time when Auburn was down 5 points with a few mins to go?  You guys obviously watched the game, do you remember what those TOs looked like?  Were they obvious that Ward was trying to turn it over?

I'm not a conspiracy person either I don't think but of course I accuse refs of it during games but that game topped anything I've ever seen as far as poor calls especiall when it came to the home team.  I wish I hadn't deleted that game from my recordings now   :banghead:

Isn't the Arkansas game where two of Auburn's players were hurt because they hit the floor so hard after being hammered on no calls?

Just re read that article.  I was incorrect in what I posted above, it was a 6 turnover game by Ward with 2 coming in 21 seconds, and 2 coming within 3 mins and they werent at very end of game, just in second half.

Might be hard to separate refs from being shady versus just outright sucking. SEC refs pretty much blow in all sports. If Ward did try to throw a game why of all games the Bama game?  :banghead:  :beatmullet:

Wasn't that the game the fan got thrown out by the refs for making a comment about the refs "getting paid"?  I am pretty sure it is.

I recall the refs being escorted off the court at half by the police.  The crowd was fairly spirited in their efforts to express their displeasure for the calls.  They came out in the 2nd half and tried to make some horse shirt (minus the R) makeup calls, but the damage had been done.

I remember hearing the fan yelling at the refs that they must have been blind a bats.  The student section was in an uproar, and deservedly so.  Those first half calls were shady, shady, shady.....

If I remember correctly, the refs had a student removed from the arena for a comment made right at the half.

Yep, he was pretty vocal and his language was very colorful.  The whole student section was raucous too though.  I was sitting close by, but I didn't have a voice left to scream and curse them by halftime.  I'd wasted my voice during the first half of the game.

I watched UCONN yesterday briefly. I noticed several dunks, where players hung on the rim as well as slapping the backboard after dunking.

I remember Auburn being hammered for less in the alabama game. Makes you wonder.

Agree; SEC refs are among the worst in any BCS conference for sure in a wide variety of sports. I didn`t get to see the bama game but from what I have heard; several calls were pathetic. But again, that`s SEC officiating.

Yep...if the FBI carefully studies the game films at least one of them is bound to say..." I know we are looking at the AU player but could the refs really be this incompetitent?"

Otherwise, the SEC has the leading athletic programs in the nation and yet with all the money the conference generates, they can't find decent officials for football and basketball.   I don't consider the refs to be 'on the take" or whatever but there are waaay too many incompetent officials in the SEC ....and AU seems to see more than our share of them.

There is no way possible when that game is reviewed that they can't be in shock at the officiating.  Heck, the dang announcers were questioning them and making comments.  I brought a bama friend of mine to the game with me, and he was laughing his butt off and saying he couldn't believe AU was getting hosed by the officials on our home court.  It was blatant incompetence to me.

It was rather curious to see those 3 officials names mentioned in the covers.com article. Wouldn't have to necessarily be a team of 3 to be on the take, Basketball is a very streaky game and there were several momentum killing calls in the first half. Despite our mediocre history, we simply do not get beat in Bball like that at home to Bama ever.

One of those officials worked both Auburn-Updyke U games and was the only two Auburn games he worked all year.

Look at the supervisor of the SEC's officials and you'll understand why the officiating is what it is.
