Terry Daniels- punter

and the place kicker.. too hard to choose from. Del Greco, Wes Byrum, Duval... John Vaughn minus LSU in '05.. Scott Etheridge.. too many that really pulled through for us over the years.

going with Byrum. He beat Florida twice in the same game. His leg brought home our 2nd NC.

David Beverly was ahead of his time as a punter. Not sure any other Auburn punter had the NFL career David Beverly did. He has been nominated several times for Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. He still has team records while playing at Green Bay in the 1970s. He had amazing hang time and accuracy (inside the 10 and to one side of the field) for his day.

Gant kicked for bama, why is he listed with Gardner???

Maybe because he's one of our all-time favorite punters? Does "Punt Bama Punt" ring a bell? You might have to get your giggle goin' a little....

punter - Jon Kilgore

Agree with John Kilgore. On Shug's teams that did not score many points and relied on defense and field position, Kilgore kept the opponent pinned down for 4 quarters.

Neil O'Donoghue 9 year NFL career. Should be near the top of the list....

Not to say he wasn't a great kicker, but didn't he transfer to Florida after a disappointing miss against Bama and then turned around and beat us with a field goal?

Punter-Terry Daniel

PK-Gardner Jett, will never forget Gary Sanders call when Jett lined up to kick to the game winning EP against the turds in 72. I was at that game as well.

No. You are thinking of someone else, whose name doesn't need to be typed here. You are correct on the incident(s), but it wasn't O'Donoghue.

Alot of people have Vaughn on their list, but man...I just can't get the 2005 LSU game out of my head...

No doubt that was tough to swallow, but his body of work as a whole can't be denied. I believe be was AU's all-time leading scorer when he left.

Del Greco and Terry Daniel

Winner.

We have been very blessed to have great kickers through AU history. It always seemed a priority. It won us many games as well.

That was McGinty. He ruined my freshman year at AU.

Y'all are too young...surely you remember Ed Dyas ('57-60) ....one of the first really good FG kickers back in the day when 10 or 14 points was usually enough to win a game. He was a great AU man and passed away a couple years ago. .

Terry Daniel is also one of the better golfers I have ever played with. Has a tremendous long game. It's a shame he wasn't able to play in the nfl due to injuries. Those same injuries didn't prevent him from playing for us, and it didn't keep him from tearing it up at the combines. There was no "waiver" he could sign.

Not so fast AU64, how about Billy " Ace" Atkins of our '57 NC team ;D .He also played fullback and linebacker. Back when men were men and played both ways. :hellyeah: WDE!!!

Yep...those were the days of the old X and Y units and teams where the center usually played linebacker too.
