AUBURN, Ala. -- The Auburn equestrian team is now ranked No. 1 in the country in the latest NCEA rankings, the selection committee announced Tuesday. The ranking marks the first time the Tigers have been No. 1 since March 6, 2013.

Auburn (5-1, 2-1 SEC) closed the fall schedule with an 11-8 victory over then-No. 1 Georgia on Nov. 13 at home. Auburn took a 7-3 lead at halftime against the Bulldogs after winning Horsemanship, 4-1, and Equitation over Fences, 3-2.

Freshman Hayley Iannotti earned her first career MOP honors after defeating Addy Cord, 85-83, in Fences. Senior Elizabeth Benson continued her perfect season in Equitation over Flat with a 74-69 victory over Leylan Gleeson. In Reining, freshman Blair McFarlin closed the match with a 71-68 win over Charley Thiel to earn MOP honors.

Auburn will return to action January 30 at home against Baylor at 1 p.m. CT.

It's a fun thing to watch. I recommend checking their schedule and going. Even if you're not up on all the finer points of the competition, it's fun.

Also, it's not for sissies. The riders and horses all need this mid-season break. Coach Tuberville to the equestrian coach, when both were in the athletic trainer's room checking on their wounded warriors :"You've got more kids in here than I do".
