Auburn has defeated the defending national champions 4 times in the past 15 years, more than any other team in the country during the same period (2004 LSU, 2007 Florida, 2010 Alabama, 2013 Alabama).

Looks like we're a year behind.

3 against Saban...hahaha

Of course us winning those 3 also means he's won the previous Natty..which is kinda crappy. Flip side of the coin and all. :)

I would imagine that the number of times we've played the champ going back to 2003, win or lose, dwarfs that of any other school. In 2003 they split the title and we played both teams, LSU and USC. We played bama every year since then, of course, FSU in 2013 and we played Clemson last year. Twice in that span, we've played against both title game *participants* (2011 and 2016).

So, we've played (or been :) ) the national champion 9 of the last 14 years, if I'm doing my math right.

How many times have we played the defending national champs, though? The four times we won, and then Bama in 2012 and 2016...I guess LSU won it all in 07, so we played them in 08...that makes 4 for 7 in games vs. the defending national champions, right? Not bad odds, especially considering the up and down nature of Auburn's football program of late.

Since the BCS started in 1998. @Tennessee 1999 L 0-24, LSU 2004 W 10-9, @Florida 2007 W20-17, LSU 2008 L 21-26. @Bama 2010 W 28-27, @Bama 2012 L 0-49, Bama 2013 W 34-28
@Bama 2016 L 12-30.

I was just going on the OP's premise of the last 15 years, but this verifies it, anyway. Thanks.

We've played the defending national champions 7 times in the past 15 years. So we're still 4-3. A winning record which is still extraordinary. The 3 L's come to 2008 LSU 2012 Bama 2016 Bama

That is extraordinary. 7 time in 15 years, we always have a damned hard schedule
