Poll: Will Stidham return for 2019?

164 members have voted

  1. 1. I know it's still early in the season and a lot can happen between now and the end of the season, but, so far, Jarrett Stidham hasn't looked like a QB who's ready to take his game to the next level. He certainly has the physical tools, but may need some more development on the mental side. That being said, does anyone think he will return to Auburn for his senior season?

Gatewood is an option but i'd say get ready to put your hope and trust in Bo Nix

Gatewood is not a realistic option at starting QB. Sandberg is. And will have a full year of practice and experience over Nix, which will make him the favorite as the starting QB for the season opener.

Out of reax but 100% agreed

I don’t understand how you and your E-frands run out of reactions so fast. I’ve never run out of reactions. Perks of being mod in waiting I guess.

Was hoping we would see your boy Cord last week? Maybe this week perhaps? We need to see him air it out a bit.

It's easier to get a QB married than it is to let him throw a slant just like it's easier to get the AU HC job than a Texas High School gig

That deserves a JLaw gif

haha after gamedays I take Sundays off from the board, and when I come back to visit on Monday I lose all my reactions sifting through the explosion of post-game posts.

Stop being so stingy with your emotions, Jeff! Let it all out!!!!

Prescott was never much of a deep ball threat.

Stidham is one of the best pure passers in the country, particularly on deep balls. Or at least he was when he got here.

C'mon...you don't really believe that?.    Best pure passer based on what? .....a few games at Baylor?     He's a short pass specialist...was at Baylor too....and makes his stats on quick outs.   Might get drafted because there are so few good QBs these days for some reason....but those previous bama QBs that we maligned so much are better than JS ...JMO

That just seems like a lot of work.

Yes, it's a disturbing trend that QBs either plateau rapidly under Gus' leadership, at best. At worst, they decline. None of JS's weaknesses from last year were corrected. I get he's got a crap OL right now which only compounds the issues but I mean damn what part of his game has improved?

Good point about the QBs plateauing under Gus.  This is Gus’ 2nd time with a returning QB, first being NM, and there seem to be some parallels.  NM didn’t regress statistically, but the team did in the win/loss category.

As you mentioned earlier, Stid seems to be frustrated and I certainly agree. After the LSU loss last year, Stid mentioned he didn’t have the ability to call an audible and Gus responded in the off season that Stid now will be able to call an audible. The problem is that after the play is called, Stid is still looking to the sidelines for further instructions.  This leaves little time, if any, to get into another play.  If you coached a guy for over a year, at some point you’re going to have to trust him to do the right thing.

It’s got to be very frustrating when you have an IQ higher than a dog not to be let off the leash to show your tricks.

If Nix comes in and wins as a true freshman then more power to him.  His dad did ok coming in and taking over.

His dad took over the final game of his Redshirt Soph season, which means he had 2 1/2 years of practice and experience on the team.

If Sandberg wins the job, which I expect him to, no way Nix waits that long to start.

Says who?

His performance in the 2018 Spring game. I know, I know, Spring games never tell us anything. But my eyes saw a guy who, much like Willis, will never be a successful starting QB in the SEC. Perhaps he can follow in the Kent St footsteps of Woody Barrett.

I don’t disagree that Cord will start next year.  I’m never a fan of a true freshman starting Qb in the SEC.  If Nix comes in and wins it then he deserves it.

Why am I not surprised that your opinion runs counter to all evidence and logic- and there is a LOT of both contradicting your opinion- on this topic, also?

I agree with you on Sandberg. BUT, since he will have had a full year of Gus' coaching, I think at this point I'd have to give the advantage to Nix.

The time of zone read based offense that you want so badly, is over.

well if you plan on auburn not sitting at home or losing bowl games in embarassing fashions every january, its the only style of offense your boy Gus knows

This current state of affairs is sad as hell from a fans perspective, we hope/wish/pray/hang on every word from the coaching staff every dang season and it's like groundhog day all over again.

I've stated before each of the last 2-3 seasons that I'll go ahead and be stupid enough to give Gus one last benefit of the doubt going into the new year.

If this offensive clown school doesn't right itself SOON then I'm just going to....have to give him 2-3 more years due to that Stoopid contract....*SIGH*...

I only like it cuz it's true and I wouldn't give you a facepalm, because the truth actually requires that.
