Total number in the House, 435; Senate 100.

My vote is......

House- 242 Republicans, 193 Democrats

Senate- 53 Republicans, 47 Democrats

That would be great! I am not quiet as optimistic as you , but:

House 235-200

Senate 51-48-1

Who would become majority leaders?

And forgive my ignorance but would a new house speaker be appointed?

Angus King from Maine. He’s an Independent that caucuses with the Dems.

On the first day of the next Congress, each party will select the individual whom they wish to represent their Party in a vote for the new Speaker.  The vote is by simple majority and usually divides along Party lines.  If the Republicans retake the House, then most likely Rep. Kevin McCarthy will become the next Speaker.  Should the Democrats win, then their leader may not be Rep. Nancy Pelosi.  Mrs. Pelosi stated in an interview with CNN that the recent attack upon her husband will have strong impact on her future in the House.
