StatTiger 3,188
I will be the first to admit, I would love to see more sacks and forced turnovers by our defense. But when you look at the overall picture, the defense is getting the job done and will be good enough to keep us in the game against anyone remaining on our schedule. Of all the numbers to look at in terms of defensive productivity, scoring defense should be #1. For the most part, it doesn't matter what the opponent does on the field as long as we limit their trips to our endzone. With this in mind, here are the average number of plays allowed per TD since 1967. Year- Avg 1986- 77.50 1987- 68.36 1989- 62.45 2005- 60.50 1988- 60.18 1974- 49.57 1969- 44.81 1967- 42.71 1970- 42.65 1971- 42.53 1968- 41.58 2004- 41.05 1982- 40.68 1973- 39.61 1981- 38.60 1985- 36.53 1972- 36.50 2003- 34.87 1992- 34.85 1990- 33.82 1978- 33.55 1994- 33.35 2002- 33.04 1983- 31.61 1991- 31.04 1999- 30.81 1997- 30.59 1984- 28.14 1993- 28.04 1977- 27.93 1979- 27.77 2000- 27.54 1995- 27.50 1998- 27.50 1975- 26.10 1996- 24.84 1980- 24.55 2001- 23.45 1976- 20.42 If the numbers hold through the remainder of the season, Auburn will not lose another game. I also like the trend of how we have improved since the 2001 season.
War Eagle 96 10
Sweet. Obviously our schedule is a bit "backloaded," but this shows we have quite a defense anyway.
